Samuel Beckett was an Irish playwright. He wrote his play the title of which is " Waiting for Godot " in the French language originally. It was then translated into English and performed in London in a theatre in august of 1955.
I studied this play at university and saw an English production of it here in Sydney, Australia in the late 1970s. It was not till many years later that I discovered that the two actors who played
" Didi" and " Gogo " were none only but Mel Gibson and Geoffrey Rush.

It's an amazing play. I'm surprised to hear you say that the plot sounds really good, because it's an absurdist satire and there's not really any plot to speak of. Two guys are waiting around for Godot, that's about it. Amazing classic work, though, and very readable.
