Well, Hawaii uses their State of Hawaii Sheriff's Office to act as their state-wide law enforcement agency. I'm not actually sure why this is different, but it is. Probably since their state is actually a series of islands, it is just easier to break up the control to those sections. Each of the four seperate counties has its own police force though.

I hate to break the news but their never was a Hawaii 5-0 except on television. I'm sure police officers in Hawaii are sick of the term.

Hope this helps ................................
The Hawaii State Police, often called "Hawaii 5-0," is an elite law enforcement unit created under the Governor's office and the State Police Commission. It is tasked with investigating organized crime, computer crime, politically sensitive "redball" cases, cases involving interisland crime, and providing security to officials of the Hawaii state government. They are headquartered in the basement of Iolani Palace.

Actually if u wanna get technical Hawai'i isnt the only state. I mean look at Cali, they have a Highway Patrol, not a state police. Some states have a State Bureau of Investigation.
