She lost her wallet over Christmas break, with money, gift cards & school ID. I found it today in her closet in a bag w/other stuff from school. Now she can't find her expensive volleyball sweatshirt. She leaves things everywhere. She is a smart girl, does well in most other areas. She's making me crazy! Help! Any ideas?

I think you have to tell her that she has to give everything a home.. like tell her that the home to her wallet is on top of her TV and that she needs to make sure she gives every thing a home like this she will knows where she can pick them up or drop them off or visit with them like she does her friends. Tell her to think of her things as if they were little people that have to be returned home, just like she has a special place so do her things. You know if she associates her wallet with the TV and her clothes with a home (closet). she will start to make sure her things get to their home. = ) Maybe that might work for you..

I have a 13 year old like that. The only thing I know to tell you that works sometimes is to let her suffer the consequences. Like if you found her wallet don't tell her and then go shopping. If she wants to buy something then don't give her the money. Mine got to where she took advantage because I always replaced what she lost or either i found it for her. It is hard to make them suffer the consequences because usually you have to do the suffering! Good Luck!

I guess the first thing is "A place for everything and everything in its place." If she loses things because she is careless or irresponsible, then tell her she has to replace them with her own money. If she's just absent-minded, then try to find some memory exercises or ask an expert for some ways to improve her concentration skills.

i had a bad memory after i had my daughter and i was still in school because i am only 16 so i know what your daughter is going through. i think her mind is probably focused on one thing instead of where she is putting her things. so my advice is to talk to her and tell her she needs to concentrate and stay focused.

finders keepers, losers weepers...that's the rule in my house. you can believe that after my boys lost cash, clothes, cell phones, and video games, they started paying closer attention to their belongings. another suggestion is to stop buying stuff for her. i refuse to purchase anything for my boys a second time. if it is lost or broken, they must replace it themselves.

don't find them for her and don't replace the things she loses.that should make her a little more responsible.
