I got a huge stalk of sugar cane at the supermarket today. I cut off a piece, and the inside is BLOOD RED! Is this normal?

Sugarcane is a generic name for grasses of the genus Saccharum. The more common form of cane available is Saccharum officinarum and it has greenish white inside. It is possible that you bought one of the less common Caribbean species (there are more than 30). Hope this helps.

No, I don't think so... What? Did you think it's someone's arm? No, really, sugarcane isn't supposed to be that red, unless maybe it's not ripe or not sugarcane, or a lookalike that supermarkets sell as sugarcane. I'm not sure. Don't quote me on it.
