Take away his playstation everytime you smell it on him - Just because someONE says everybody does it, does not mean that everybody does - I NEVER DID! It's NOT a phase - it's an excuse! He is looking for something that's why he's smoking pot.
If you DON'T enforce boundaries for you kids/children THEY WILL NOT RESPECT YOU!
"Everybody does it, it must be ok." this is the frame of mind that is bringing down America.
To me - Good, Ain't Good Enough! Besides, think about it... that's what everybody says about their kid no matter how bad or good! Raise the bar!

First of all, just because he has a sense of entitlement does not mean he is spoiled. He is just a normal kid living in the "me" generation. Our entire society thrives upon giving kids a sense of entitlement...isn't that the whole american dream? That we can all have what we want when we put our minds to it?
Anyways, back onto the topic. Your question was what more could a "good" kid be looking for an why is he finding it in pot? Most kids are looking for a sense of adventure, to be admired in front of their peers, to try new things, to take risks and be "dangerous". Risk taking is a very normal part of teen behaviour. And if he has already tried pot, he could very well enjoy the carefree feeling of calm that it gives him, especially if he is feeling pressured at home or at school.
In short, there are plenty of reasons why a teenager would smoke pot. And by the way, lots and lots of kids do it - it's a faze they go through and they get over it before it does any long-term damage. You can't do anything to stop it, but you can remind your child of the SERIOUS legal consequences of being caught in possession of marijuana. That is really the primary reason not to do it. In any case, I would focus on reprimanding him more for the symptoms of drug use (such as lethargy, poor performance in school, etc) as opposed to playing police officer parent. That will only harm your relationship with him.

My mom would say take the pot tell him how bad it is then take him over your knee and insure it's a lesson he won't forget. Where I would say ask him if he knows of the risks that run along with smokeing pot. If he doesn't know and doesn't want to figure out ask him to write you an essay on it. Just make sure he's awear at what it does to his body or look into getting him to try a scared straight program.

it's completely normal. actually, at my college if you don't it's pretty much not normal. i know people in their 30s and 40s that smoke pot everyday. i don't think that there's anything wrong with it. it's natural and has the same health affects as smoking cigarettes, pretty much. i personally don't think it's out of the norm to smoke pot everyday.

Check with your local prison, and see if they have a "Scared Straight" program. I was involved in one many years ago, when I worked in a prison. It works for some, and not for others. My next suggestion would be to shackle him in a bathroom, for the rest of his life. If he is a spoiled as you indicate, he won't stop unless he wants to.

I am with BigRing's answer on this one. Our son went thru the "play" years and it started out with just one joint am sure...anyway.....we set laws down, you can't be an enabler...go to AA meetings and see how you can best help him. I didn't I just grew up and told son it was illegal and was not going to support that kind of habit.....saying "everyone does it" is a cop out...He stopped his many years ago and has never tried it or any other drugs since...I know for with his job he has to take random drug test...lol.......anyway, don't be an enabler it kills cells for one thing, it could lead to further addictions, it is illegal drug,
(I never used any kind of drugs either) I work in a medical office and I see these messed up kids enough to see what they end up like....that would turn anyone off of them

well theres alot of reason kids do pot. im a teen i should know. its not tht hes spoiled. heres a list of reasons,1-he thinks its cool cause as we all kno the bad guy tht are drugdealers r da cool guys they get da grls, party non stop, nd enjoy life w/ no issues. 2- they're depressed inside even though it may look good tht he has a good life he might have a different view of tht nd he might feel tht he isnt nd as a teen its when we all go through changes nd we realize who we are, wht life really is, whts good/bad, nd wht we want to live for. nd kids realize they are upset about lot of things nd they turn to drugs for help thinkin it would work cause thts wht every teen does. they dont want to turn to help cause they're scared nd its awkward so its like drugs is thier secret friend. 3- they can do it jus to experience it for the sake nd see wht happens some kids jus like to experiment even though they kno its bad cause thts how kids work. we have to see/try it to believe it. 4- it can jus be tht he has too much on his mind nd drugs is like helpful too him cause he think it relieves stress. 5- he feels if he does drugs it gives him power nd he control everything cause hes got his lil thing. drugs is like god for teens.
BUT remember the way u see something isnt the way someone else sees it. theres always 2 sides to a story. and the only way u can get to see both sides is if u reach out nd do somethin nd try to find his inner self to see wht he really is doin to himself. u have to get it tru him buh not by yellin or lecturin. try doin something fun like go out to a movie or take him to a lake nd show him where lots of ppl end up when they ruin their lives nd he'll maybe connect to u nd he'll share his thoughts. Teens dont stop jus like 1-2-3. there's steps like theres steps to buildin a house. trust me ttake ur advice from a teen who knows PLENTY of ppl who smokes weed, do tabacoo, ciggeretes, even ectasy. if u need more info jus email me.
