I find it funny that many Christians are supporting the different translation, that you should love none of these things more than Jesus.
Is that why Christians seem so primitive and ignorant? They love a deceased Bronze-Age prophet more than their own living family?

In Luke 14:26, it is saying that if you love ANYONE or ANYTHING more than Christ Jesus, you cannot be His disciple.
In 1John 3:15, if you THINK a sin, it is the same as DOING the sin. Feeling bitterness against someone who has done something wrong to you is the same as taking violence against that person.
No, they don NOT contradict each other. Why not STUDY the Bible to find truth instead of TRYING to find fault with it?

Luke 14:15 Jesus is saying you are not to put anything in front of God, not even your Mother or Father.
1 John 3:15 Tells us we are to love everyone, or we aren't doing the will of God.
I don't believe the Holy Bible contradicts itself anywhere.

The verses make me think that your name fits.
You see a contradiction on the surface, yet refuse to see truth which underlies the two verses, and is congruent to the character of God.
Ps 78:2 I will open my mouth in a parable: I will utter dark sayings of old:
Pr 26:7 The legs of the lame are not equal: so is a parable in the mouth of fools.

They don't contradict if you read them in context. In Luke Jesus is using a literary form called "hyperbole"- a statement of extremes, contrasting love with hate for emphasis’ sake. The Bible often does this (Proverbs 13:24; 29:24). Jesus tells us that the first and greatest Commandment is to love God with all of our heart, soul, and mind (Matthew 22:37,38). As much as we treasure our spouse and family, and even our own life, there should be no one whom we love and value more than God, no one who takes precedence in our life. To place love for another (including ourselves) above God is idolatry
now in 1John 3:15 John seems to be making a reference to what Jesus said on the sermon on the mount (matthew 5). But if you read the whole passage carefully he is talking about how we should love fellow christians and men.

yes...they are correct...
but loses meaning fron hebrew into english...
1 john and matthew 5
murderer means RACA- which is hate---anyone who hates is in danger of hell fire---......
so commandment means--RACA (murder) anyone who hate-anger of any form against another annot enter heaven but must forgive--show compassion-mercy-love----.
matthew and luke translation means
hate --mother-father=sister=brother--means a person who loves the world of flesh more than they love GOD-the LORD and SAVIOR (let the DEAD -sinner- bury the DEAD -sinners-)
who would rather remain with their own kind than go with GOD-then let them remain with the dead (world of sinner) for they are not worthy of traveling-being with the family of the lord..
disciples of the LORD are adopted into the family of GOD as sons and daughter of God's family...
We have to leave the world behind us.
Romans 12:2 be not conformed to this world but be ye transformed.
12:2 And be not conformed to this world: but be ye transformed by the renewing of your mind, that ye may prove what is that good, and acceptable, and perfect, will of God.
Galatians
3:29 And if ye be Christ's, then are ye Abraham's seed, and heirs according to the promise.
Jesus said it is so simple--even a child can understand it..

Do you think that God hates people? Seek the greater meaning disciples must surrender their life...It is the reason Paul taught those who are not married and capable should remain unmarried because marriage and familiy ties them to this world. Build your treasure in heaven that where your treasure is your heart will be also. His deciples surrendered all and took up their cross to follow Christ those that love their life will lose it and those who lose their life for his name's sake shall have it more abundantly. Too actually hate in the physical sense as for a man to hate his borther is a sin but to hate in this sense is to abandon all for God one is spoken to deciples and one is spoken to all. When you see anything that would lead you to believe God is hateful you should seek a greater understanding such as Jacob I have loved and Esau I have hated. If that one confuses you I will be happy to help with it also.

Luke 14:26 is saying that God comes first. It doesn`t mean literally to hate anyone. As we know God is love and we are to love our neighbor, not only our kin.You must give up this life ,so to speak , God should come first above all things.Your not to let anyone interfere with your salvation. 1 John3:15- You can`t hate ,hate causes strife.

Hating in that ancient culture had a meaning of "loving less". Because we have a culture that came from Greeks, we learned to take everything literally. In the society where Jesus lived, there was much more freedom for inexact expressions.

Luke is referring to believing in the Lord over the objections of one's family (choosing family over God). I John text concerns hating a fellow believer. There is no contradiction.
