Ok, there are people who go to school to become specialist in hair dying. When you want to go to extremes like you are, you HAVE to go to someone who knows what they're doing.

I am an avid color tryer and I have always loved any claroil product. I use just about anything for the first time product but if you are reapplying after the roots have grown out then ALWAYS use the same color that you used before and the same brand name. The only one that I've had trouble with is Garnier Frutis. Hope this helps. Also, I would get two boxes of the same just in case you run out. You can either return any unopened unused product, or save it for the next time you color when your roots grow out. And red reducer helps with any color it is only like 85 cents and you can find it at any beauty shop like Sallies.

I agree with Bad Samaritan. If you are lucky enough to have long, black curly hair, go with it! Believe it or not, a lot of people would love to have hair like yours. I can't have black hair - it washes out my complexion. Wish I could! Anything you can do will most likely look brassy or reddish. Blonde will probably not go well with your hair and anything lighter will make you look old! Just go with lots of curl and lots of black!

Since your hair is so dark, I would recommend going to a salon for a few highlights, instead of trying to do it yourself. You don't want to end up brassy or orange.

I would do red or carmel colored high lights. I have tried many different brands, but my favorite is nice n easy.

herbal essences is good and the smell isnt too bad but if your hair is too dark, it won't take. you have to bleach it to get some color going.
