I recently got a 15 week old yellow lab for christmas. She was shipped in from a breeder in Kansas. We had no probem teaching her tricks, housebreaking ect. We live on a second floor condo and had no probelm taking her out for walks. She loved them! recently after starting work again she has been so stubborn. She does not want to go outside enless its an urgent pottybreak. Once we get her to the field she is fine but recently she has been sitting and not allowing us to walk her at times. We have tried lifting her walking to her and everything.

I am using a harness and it isn't that she is tired or doesn't like going outside. She sits when i open to door to go out and once we are out and about she is fine. once we get to go back toward the doorshe sits again.

A lot of things could be causing this:

1) She may have developed a phobia about going outside (fear of the stairs, fear of strangers, fear of other dogs). Has anything startled or frightened her recently on a walk?

2) If the weather has changed a lot recently, she may not like the feel of the cold/wet ground on her paws (and giving her booties might help with this)

3) as she gets older, she may not like the "dominant" pull of her leash when you walk her. Getting her a "Halti" head harness or "Easy Walker" harness (that pulls from the chest instead of the neck) may make her feel less "controlled" and "confined".

4) Maybe she just prefers being indoors and doesn't like being "forced" outside. As long as she let you know when she needs to go potty, don't force the issue. "Fighting" with her over going outside will only reinforce her negative feelings about going out, and make her all the more stubborn. Walks should be "fun time" not "fight time".

I just got a 3 month old dog from the local dog pound part German Shepard and Rottweiler - He (Beau) does the same thing - He wants to go back into the warm house and is just trying to control you.

I use a body harness not a collar or a choke chain - so when he sits and is ready to go back I give him a command of get up and he does and we continue the walk and he continues to find more spots to mark. If he does not move I will pull him forward and since I have a body harness I am not hurting him but he will then start walking with me again.

Your dog has figured out how to train you

Labs are dogs had one for 15 years.

maybe she is mad at you for not having as much time for her since you have been working. Or maybe she has somehow made a connection that if she goes for a walk that means you will go away. But whatever it is, I'm sure she will adjust and start enjoying walks again. Dogs sometimes act funny when their shedule changes.

She is probably just being stubborn. She might just be going through one of those puppy/teenage moments. When she sits just keep walking. If you feed into her by picking her up and carrying her she's going to know that she's the boss.

SHE's Little! SHe can only handle so much! She must be tired. Little puupies need a lot of rest. Because they are so hyper in the day. It would be normal if she takes naps.

well once she can be lazy or theres something making her butt itches it can be worms (dogs can have worms if you don't take care of them so take them to the doctor) or your dog just want your attention.
