The only thing it's good for is hanging on your wall or sitting on a mantel. I wouldn't "chop" any thing with that.

None of the cheap swords are sharpened for cutting, just sharp enough to hurt yourself with.

And a memory foam pillow? Things that have "give" are horribly harder to cut (esp) for a novice. Even for a Cold Steel sword, which especially for the money, I know, are sick sharp, that would be bad. That's why "they" use rolled up tatami mats or cardboard tubes for cutting.

Put simply it is not, I would venture to say that it is the second best sword ever created. The best sword ever created is the long bladed/handled chinese Gim, or tai chi sword. This sword can be wielded either single handed or double handed which gives it an advantage over the katana in range of motion. The katana must be wielded with two hands which restricts reach and range of motion, to give an example: the one-handed lunge of the Gim has a longer reach than the two-handed lunge of the Katana. the Gim is also lighter AND it has a double-sided blade, so it has a speed advantage over the katana. When you make a cut with a Katana you have to twist the sword to make a second cut which wastes time, uses extra energy, and also restircts motion even more. The Gim still has equal power, however because you can use two hands for powerful slices and thrusts when needed.

its a piece of junk but if u want it for fun or something its not gonna fly off and hit someone. u can usually tell the quality of the sword by the price. well thats the quick and dirty way anyway. a good sword will run from a few hundred dollars to 10s of thousands. real antique katanas can go for 20 grand but a good mass production one that will last will be around a few hundred. i would suggest a cold steel katana or try searching for something similair. cold steel has a very good reputation for swords and knives and i have a katana from them and its working out pretty good. they have videos u can watch to see how tough they are by puting them through torture testing. sorta like the glock of swords.

Logan,

no...that's a showpiece sword....wall decor only.

If you want a halfway decent katana to use practically, without having to sell organs on black market for the price of it....check out Paul Chen Hanwei. He was a full tang "practical plus" katana for just a hair over $200.00 and for the price it's a solid sword.

Quick guide for buying katanas or any other similar blade off the internet:
If it says 'samurai' or 'ninja' preceding the word 'sword'... it's usually a piece of crap. Any real dealer of katana, ninto, etc. would know the real names of the swords.

It's not that good, but it is still better than most of the crap you see (even if this one is crap as well).

Like the guy above me, I would suggest saving a hundred or two more dollars for one of the lower end blade from Last Legend, the Oni Forge, Cold Steel, or Paul Chen. You won't regret it.

That sword is not that good for the simple fact you have to put it together. Go to a sword shop of some sort or a web site that has better swords. Try this site...www.budkww.com...thats where i get my swords from and they have cheap swords and knives and they have expensive swords and knives. They have everything.

It looks to me like a kit...something you have to put together yourself. When choosing swords, remember: if the price sounds too good to be true, chances are it is.

I would not buy it because it is really no good.
If you want to learn how to use one, join an iaido/kendo club and your sensei will be able to direct you to reputable suppliers.

Otherwise, don't waste your money.
