I'd play with my brothers and cousins all day when I came home from school. My favorite game was Hide and Go Seek at night. Sometimes my aunt would play with us. We would play different games for hours and not get bored. We'd even play who could jump up and down the longest. It was so fun.

Hmmmmm---6 years old---that was 1959---In the summertime there was a lot of firefly catching in the evening, in the fall we'd rake up leaves to make a "house"--took all day to make the borders of the rooms, then the couch, chair, beds (then the dogs and cats would run thru it all!), in the winter we'd make the obligatory snow forts, the best was getting buckets of water and throwing them down the hill to make a really good sled run!! We didn't have TV, video games, stereo's, (tho I did have a transistor radio--but it would crap out once the battery died)-so we read, played cards, board games (monopoly, sorry, checkers). On the really bad "snow days" Mom would get out the construction paper and finger paints and let us "craft"! That was the age I learned how to knit, crochet, and needlepoint. A simpler time with simple pleasures. We had alot of family time back then. Daddy and Mom would "tell" bedtime stories (they weren't read from a book), just them telling us about the "good old days"!!

I used to watch my mother drink alot of beer, smoke alot of cigarettes and beat my sister on the kitchen floor. I got to listen to my dad yell and terrify me when I would accidentally break something. I lived in fear of them. I developed a mental condition that I have to this day, apparently as a result of needing a coping strategy...

So much for playing dress up and watching Disney cartoons...

My sister and I used to sit around watching our mom cry because our dad had left us. He left when we were 2 and 6 (I'm the youngest). He came back for sex and then left again. Mom always fell for it and we always got left behind. He physically left us and she emotionally left us. Parents suck.
