Where could i find a book or information on the entrance exam for police officer. They say you dont need to study but does any body know how the test is? Is it hard? Should i prepare myself in some type of way?

And does anybody know about the oral exam? How is that? Is it pretty much like a interview? What type of question do they ask?

Thanks!!!

Most police exams rely very heavily on reading comprehension. To study you can grab an old SAT study guide or something of that nature. Also, just start reading more in general and for longer stretches at a time. These exams usually take three or more hours to complete and fatigue can get to you. So condition yourself by reading more and for longer periods. And the night before the test: No boozing, get to bed early and have a good high protein breakfast. Your brain will work more efficiently and fatigue is less an issue.

As for the oral boards, just be yourself. What we are really looking for is your level of maturity and life experience. We are also making judgments on your level of confidence. For example, the ease at which you speak and your ability to communicate your thoughts effectively.

Be prepared to answer the basic type questions like:

Why do you want to be a police officer?

What personal traits do you think you possess that would make you a good officer?

Define your weaknesses?

Why did you leave your last job (s)?

There may also be some ethics type questions in addition to the same questions you'd get in any interview.

Practice your answers to these basic questions and try to be original. I can't tell you how many candidates say "I chose law enforcement because I've always wanted to help people." Separate yourself from the pack right away. Breezing through the first few questions will put you more at ease and your confidence will grow. Good luck. Hope this helps.

it depends on the department. usually you have a psych exam, a medical physical, a physical test (like running a mile) and sometimes they test you on basic knowledge you should have learned in high school. (basic math, reading and English skills). they also do a polygraph and background interview. when you inquire about applying, ask what the requirements are and the best way to prepare. they wont usually do law enforcement tests and exams until you are taking classes in the academy.
