Keep this in mind...you might be able to have more of a selection in India, but if you bring the dress back here and lose the weight you want to, will there be anyone who can alter the dress for you?? You wouldn't want to spend the money on a dress that can't be fixed.
Also, because of the traditional Indian wedding colors and designs, the dress won't look outdated. You'll be just fine when it comes to something like that.

I am gonna be the odd one out here...but I would wait.
I have travelled all around the world and been to India and I am also in the Philippines living right now organising my wedding (Im australian)...there will be so much more gorgeous dresses to choose and have made in India. Overseas is not the same as buying it in the Usa or Australia. I bought a dress in Australia before I came to the Philippines and now have ended up getting one made here because I could design it, get exactly what I want a perfect fit and at a fraction of the cost.
The fabric is just gorgeous in India and you will be better to wait! They can make you a dress really fast also so you dont have to go on the time frame you have back home!
Look up some dresses in mags and online so you know the style you want (or even the dress you are thinking about purchasing) take the pics to India with you and base your dress on them! I guarantee it will be much nicer!
My mum always says that when you do alter a dress to make it larger or smaller its never the same...so get it made there and it will be perfect!!
Good luck! x

I'm getting married in July and I ordered mine last month. If you are going to buy off the rack then you're ok but it you need to order one, it takes about 3 to 4 months for it to come in and then you need time to do alterations. Don't worry about looking out dated because wedding dresses only come out 2 times a year for fall and spring so your dress selection won't change. You should really order it now. I'm hoping to lose weight too but they can always alter it to fit you usually 2 to 4 weeks before the wedding and then you get another final alteration a week before. Also, if you get a dress with a corset back, you won't need alterations because you can just tie it tighter. These fit very nicely and will fit you perfect even if you lose or gain weight. I wouldn't count on getting the perfect dress off the rack because it might not be the right size or color or might have imperfections from people trying it on so I'd buy it now so you have time to get it ordered.

I think that it will be fine to buy your wedding dress now. In fact, I would recommend it. Better to get these things done as early as possible. You can always get it fitted closer to the wedding. That's another thing that I would recommend, actually. Don't worry about something looking outdated five months after you buy it. As long as you like it, there will be nothing wrong with it. Congratulations, and have a great time in India.

The average wait time from the time you order the dress until you get the dress is 2-3 months: which means if you order in Febraury, it won't come until April or May which is already getting close to the wedding. As a rule of thumb, you should buy your dress at least 6 months before the wedding: which means you are are already behind:)

I held out as long as I could to lose weight and I had the same amount of time you do, I toned up, but didn't lose much weight. I bought the dress in March off the rack and it was perfect for the wedding. If you decide to wait to the last minute you could luck out with a dress off the rack, but don't risk it, if you have to have one made or ordered, do it now, it will not look outdated in June, just don't pick a "trendy" dress, choose classic!!

Wedding dresses don't really become outdated. Many brides wear the same dress their mothers wore, and look beautiful.
The question here is the weight thingie. Be sure any gown you maybuy has ample material in the seams in case you need to let it out. Don't buy a gown that is 2 sizes too small with the hope that you will lose lots of weight. Buy one that fits you now, with the ample seams. And keep a good seamstress in mind just in case you do lose the weight.

It is actually recommended that you order a wedding dress at least 8 months before the wedding, according to bridal stores, so you should buy it now. Alterations are usually easy and inexpensive, so it shouldn't be a problem if you lose weight.

I dont think it will look too outdated by then. Look around in India, and if you find something you really really like, get it. You'll want to get it awhile before the wedding, anyhow.
