If you are willing to dedicate your time to a dog, prove it to your dad. Volunteer at an animal shelter several times a week to show him that you are taken responsibility for an animal. Then a a first step take in a foster dog and try to help a new house for that dog. Your dad won't feel the pressure, because the dog can be removed from your house at any time. And maybe, he even starts to like dogs and decides that it would be a good asset to the family. Good luck.

Try to find out the reason your father does not want a dog.
He has a reason for not wanting a dog and you have a reason you would like to have one.
Next see if you can resolve the reason.
Before you get a pup or dog you really need to know what type of dog fits in your life. Some dogs need a yard, some are happy in an apartment. Different dogs have different personalities. Some need a lot of grooming. You also need to look into what the dog you want needs for proper care. Who will pay the vet bill if your pup gets sick? These are important things to think about.
I have Maltese dogs, I fell in love with a picture on a book. I bought the book to learn about the breed first. I learned all about the breed and decided that it would be a great dog for my home, the amount of time I could devote to grooming and care. I now have a site all about Maltese dogs called Maltese mommy store so that people who want a Maltese know what the breed is before they buy, adopt or rescue one.
You may be upset because your dad does not want a dog. Maybe he likes to travel and would have to make arrangements to take the dog along or for proper care for the dog. Maybe he realizes that a dog requires shots and vet care, grooming and food and fresh water, excersise and a lot of love and attention. A dad is a very important part of life. He was there when you were born and will be there for you. Love him for as long as you have him. My dad is no longer here to share my days with. Try to work this out with him, he loves you very much.

And what do you plan on doing with the dog in 10 or 11 years? What happens when you go off to university? What happens when you get a full time job? What happens when you are on the soccer team or whatever and never see the pup?
If your dad says no, then leave it at that. Volunteer at a rescue center or a vet's office to get your fill. Children should not have pets. Families should. And right now, your family doesn't want one. The worst thing to do would be to convince your dad and then dump the dog once you've outgrown it or life takes you in another direction. Take it from me, being a responsible teenage pet owner can stifle your life choices.

If you live with your dad then you kinda have to abide by his rules on this one. You don't want to get a dog and then just be forced to get rid of it...trust me, that is NOT FUN.
This is the kind of thing that you probably really just want to wait for approval for....take a break from pestering your dad about it and then reintroduce the idea a little later on.
Perhaps he's concerned that you won't take care of it as much as he would like. Try showing him how very responsible and mature you are, and maybe in a couple of years he'll come around.

A dog is a big committment for anyone to take on, in terms of time, money, and personal effort.
May I suggest seeing if you can volunteer at a local dog shelter or rescue organization? If you are too young, perhaps an older friend or relative can go with you, or the shelter might be able to match you with an adult who is willing to guide you. By volunteering, you get to play with and walk the dogs, as well as start to learn about the responsibilities involved in pet ownership.

You need to make a list of pros and cons from getting a dog. You also need to develop a care plan for your dog. Show some responsibility around your home and maybe your dad will take notice and decide maybe a dog wasn't such a bad idea.

have you asked why not?I'm pretty sure you already asked him that but ask him if he can give some examples why not you cant have a dog, if he does, try to change that opinion of his by start making it better for him, like if he says that you cant get one because your not responsible-example-try to start actually doing things that will help him notice it.like your homework, chores, anything your responsible for.(only an example)try that for awhile and then ask him again and see what he says, good luck!
