Is the religious title “father” correct? It is used widely by Roman Catholics and Anglicans. “Padre,” meaning “father,” is also widely used. But Jesus taught his disciples: “You must call no one on earth your father, since you have only one Father, and he is in heaven.” (Matthew 23:9, NJB) The New English Bible reads similarly: “Do not call any man on earth ‘father.’” Why do clergymen and their followers disobey this command from the Lord Jesus Christ?

10 YOU are witnesses, God is also, how loyal and righteous and unblamable we proved to be to YOU believers. 11 In harmony with that YOU well know how, as a father does his children, we kept exhorting each one of YOU, and consoling and bearing witness to YOU, 12 to the end that YOU should go on walking worthily of God who is calling YOU to his kingdom and glory
this was showing like a literal father cherishes his children not that he has the title father

14 I am writing these things, not to shame YOU, but to admonish YOU as my beloved children. 15 For though YOU may have ten thousand tutors in Christ, [YOU] certainly [do] not [have] many fathers; for in Christ Jesus I have become YOUR father through the good news. 16 I entreat YOU, therefore, become imitators of me. 17 That is why I am sending Timothy to YOU, as he is my beloved and faithful child in [the] Lord; and he will put YOU in mind of my methods in connection with Christ Jesus, just as I am teaching everywhere in every congregation.
again this is about the newly converted men as children have a relationship with there father not a title given to paul

I guess they have a 'power' thing rather than an obedience thing!

You are correct though!

Being as blantant as it is wouldn't you expect more people to reject their authority and look for an organization that takes the Bible seriously??

Oh, I forgot ......Jesus made a good point here too as he spoke to the religious leaders of his day:

"And so YOU have made the word of God invalid because of YOUR tradition. 7 YOU hypocrites, Isaiah aptly prophesied about YOU, when he said, 8 ‘This people honors me with their lips, yet their heart is far removed from me. 9 It is in vain that they keep worshiping me, because they teach commands of men as doctrines.’” 10 With that he called the crowd near and said to them: “Listen and get the sense of it: 11 Not what enters into [his] mouth defiles a man; but it is what proceeds out of [his] mouth that defiles a man.”

12 Then the disciples came up and said to him: “Do you know that the Pharisees stumbled at hearing what you said?” 13 In reply he said: “Every plant that my heavenly Father did not plant will be uprooted. 14 LET them be. Blind guides is what they are. If, then, a blind man guides a blind man, both will fall into a pit."
-Matthew 15:6-14

What do you call your father? Do you think you shouldn't use the word "father" in addressing your father? But that's what the text literally says.

St Paul also apparently disagreed with your interpretation of Jesus' words when he wrote, "Even if you should have countless guides to Christ, yet you do not have many fathers, for I became your father in Christ Jesus through the gospel" 1 Corinthians 4:15

All fatherhood, in heaven or on earth, is from the Father. That's was Jesus was saying.

Christendom (and Judaism) values tradition more highly than the actual Word of God.

Jesus was clearly condemning the use of religious titles with his words at Matthew chapter 23. Jesus' specific instruction to refrain from using "Father" as a religious title has nothing to do with the terms of endearment between a child and parent. Similarly, the term "rabbi" (or "teacher") has its place, but never as a religious title.

(Matthew 23:1-12) Jesus spoke to the crowds and to his disciples, saying: 2 “The scribes and the Pharisees have seated themselves in the seat of Moses [as though anointed by God]. ...5 All the works they do they do to be viewed by men... 6 They like the most prominent place at evening meals and the front seats in the synagogues, 7 and the greetings in the marketplaces and to be called Rabbi by men. 8 But you, do not you be called Rabbi, for one is your teacher, whereas all you are brothers. 9 Moreover, do not call anyone your father on earth, for one is your Father, the heavenly One. 10 Neither be called ‘leaders,’ for your Leader is one, the Christ. 11 But the greatest one among you must be your minister. 12 Whoever exalts himself will be humbled, and whoever humbles himself will be exalted.

In Matthew 23:1-12, when Jesus tells us to call no man "father" or "teacher," He is using figurative language to emphasize that all legitimate authority and truth ultimately come from God. We are not to take these passages literally.

Throughout the Bible men are called fathers and teachers. Both Catholics and Protestants call earthly men fathers and teachers. St. Stephen and St. Paul call the Jewish religious leaders "fathers" (Acts 7:2 and 22:1). St. Paul calls the Corinthians

"my beloved children..., for I became your father in Christ Jesus through the Gospel" (I Cor 4:14-15; also see 1 Thess 2:11, 1 Tim 1:2, and Tit 1:4).

St. Paul became their spiritual father because he cooperated with God in giving them spiritual life, just as biological fathers cooperate with God in giving physical life. Catholics call their priests "father" because, like St. Paul, priests cooperate with God in giving spiritual life to their flock by preaching the Gospel and administering the sacraments.

God Bless You

Not everyone shares your interpretation. St. Paul wrote, "I do not write this to make you ashamed, but to admonish you as my beloved children. For though you have countless guides in Christ, you do not have many fathers. For I became your father in Christ Jesus through the gospel" (1 Cor. 4:14–15).

Good question.
Now with this knowledge that you have do you think that perhaps there are more things that God has told us about that these religious orders are doing that might be going against the Word of God?

You are to distance yourself from them and have nothing to do with them. Study the Bible, The Word of God. Allow God to be God over you. All He wants is your love and blessings from Him will flow to you.

Take your own advise and listen to your conscience.><>
