AWD, cars The Evo, or the WRX STI, of course you do have a truck so it would be hard to drive a car. My truck of choice would be the GMC DENALI truck with the aluminum 6.0 that puts out 365 horse power. If you are a Ford kind of guy the Harley Davidson or King Ranch F-series have very nice interiors. If you like Dodge it's better to get the Diesel. Of course you can't leave out the Tundra or the Titan.
As far as the absolute Heavy duty Diesel stuff. If you want off the line speed for getting on the highway, get the Chevy. If you don't mind getting the worst fuel mileage of any truck buy the ford. Reliability, and Mileage, Get the Dodge.

First... I don't know you or where you live....or for that much your anual sallary ... but the first thing I would ask "myself" [Do I really need a 4x4?]
If so?
To what degree would I use the 4x4 option?
a. Low
b. Medium
c. High
The degree or amount of usage would be best explained:
LOW - Rarely used too Never
MEDIUM - Some off roding {level low too med} "grassy - level to moderate grades - dirt roads or gravel - construction sites".
HIGH - All of the above MEDIUM with much harder ares. Area that require a vehicle to need 4x4 abilities. Work horse.
These would be some of the question to which I would not only ask myself but I would also go and ask these sales personnel and talk with them as to what they might recommend with the information (above) to "how much use" of an 4x4 you would need.
Another would be cost to have any repairs or maintenance done to not only the 4x4 but to the 4x4 transmission? Most maintenance and repairs can be very costly. So ask about that as well.
Something else to think about. Insurance? 4x4's will be more than that of regular two wheel drives.
Let's not forget Local & State Taxes? Much higher than that of an two wheel drive.
I'm not trying to discourage you but you will need this information to make a choice to what vehicle you pick.
40k is alot to spend on a very expencive 4x4 if you don't have the ($) to keep it up to par.

According to Yahoo Autos, the Top Ten Most Popular Trucks for this week are:
2007 Toyota Tacoma 4x4 $18,025-25,915
2007 Chevrolet Avalanche $32,335-42,575
2007 Toyota Tacoma 4x2 $14,080-23,845
2007 Honda Ridgeline $27,800-34,940
2006 Toyota Tundra 4x2 $16,155-30,245
2006 Cadillac Escalade EXT $53,335
2006 Toyota Tacoma 4x4 $17,925-25,815
2006 Chevrolet Silverado 1500 Regular Cab 2WD $20,800-27,500
2007 Nissan Frontier Crew Cab $20,800-27,500
2006 Hummer H2 SUT $53,305
The 3rd top fuel efficient truck is my favorite, the 2006 Chevrolet Truck Avalanche 2500 4WD. It fits perfectly around your budget, too, with an MSRP of $38,320. There is also a Cadillac version of this car, if you are going for the "name".

I don't see spending a ton of money on a car something to be proud of, yes you may have the money to buy an expensive thing, but it really just gets you to and from work. If I had to choose a car that was that extravagent I would go with the Mercedes Benz CLK63 AMG Cabriolet, gorgous car.

I'd buy a Toyota Sequoia, especially if you wanted a stout vehicle that can tow a few things.
