That depends if it's bacterial or viral. If it's strept throat, you may need antibiotics.

Here are some things you can try. Drink lots of cold water. Use a humidifier to add moisture to the air. If you have a humidifier, put it near your bed while you sleep. If you don't have a humidifier being in the bathroom while a hot shower is running and breathing in the steam may help. Another option is to boil water in a tea pot so that steam is coming out of the pot and into the kitchen.

Baking Soda For Sore Throat

2016-11-10 07:44:37 · answer #2 · answered by ? 4 · 0 0

A couple of weeks I had such a bad sore throat it hurt to swallow my saliva and I couldn't sleep. The pain was so severe my mouth kept watering and swallowing was agonizing. At night I kept waking up because it hurt sooo bad. I couldn't even cry and I really felt like it! Gargling with warm sea salt water had always helped in the past but not this time. I had never in my life had such a bad sore throat and I was going on my 7th day so I ended up going to urgent care thinking I had strep- I didn't. I couldn't eat or drink anything for a few days. I was miserable!

My neighbor told me of a remedy her mom used to give her. You'll need a lime and baking soda.
You cut a lime in half and cook it in an open flame or a pan turning it with some tongs so it cooks evenly. It'll get really juicy. The lime is too hot to touch so I recommend you hold the lime with a few paper towels or a rubber glove when squeezing the juice in your mouth.
You squeeze the warm juice in your mouth and then put a pinch of baking soda with it and gargle for about 30 seconds or as long as you can with it (don't swallow it!) It gets really foamy and you'll want to spit it out because it tastes awful and you feel like you're choking with the foam but don't spit it out! Before you're ready to spit it out swallow just a little tiny bit and bring it back up. Spit it out and do not rinse your mouth for two hours. You can repeat this with the other half of the lime right away or wait a few minutes and do this again. I did this three times a day for a day and a half and it went away. She told me that the lime and baking soda will kill what ever is causing your sore throat and heals it fast.

Well, when I had a really bad sore throat I couldn't even talk. My throat hurt alot and when i needed something i had to write it down.
That day, my mom was at work, Me and my sisters were on break, but when my mom got home, she said the most powerful medicene she had would kick in. Though it didn't do anything. After another day of this pain, my mom returned from work. She gave me a cup filled with warm water. I asked what to do with this and she said gargle it. So i put it im my mouth and relized it was warm SALTED water. I had to gargle the entire bad tasting glass of this. But then i could talk. I thought it was a miracle! lol, hope this helps. though most of it was pointless....i felt like typing!

Try gargling with some warm salt water. It tastes gross, but it really works. Also, chamomile tea is really good too. With my last sore throat, I would gargle the salt water and then drink the tea to be rid of the taste. I did this with every meal, and got a lot better in a day or two. Just be sure to use warm salt water. Cold salt water can actually make it feel worse. I hope you feel better! I know horrible these things can make you feel.
