A hot compress is usually a bag of either a liquid or grain or beads that retain their heat when heated in a microwave for 2 minutes. You apply it to the injured area for 20 minutes or so. It helps to relieve pain.
A cold compress is usually kept in the freezer or refrigerator. It can be ice chips, or a bag containing the same liquid, grain, or beads as used in the hot compress.
I use a hot compress for muscle and joint aches, and cold compresses to keep swelling down to sprained or twisted ankles, etc. My husband uses a hot or warm compress on his shoulder that has arthritis pain.
We make our own compress bags by taking an old sock without holes, filling it with raw uncooked rice, and tying the elastic end shut. Then we warm it in the microwave for 2 minutes, or put it in the freezer in a gallon size ziplock bag for about an hour. It will stay either hot or cold for over half an hour at least.

Using you just a face cloth and wet it with very warm almost hot water. Squeeze out the access what and then apply the cloth to the area where you are advised to put a hot compress on.

Chiropractors use a form of hot compress to relax the muscles in your back before working on you. The one I went to used what looked like a 4 pouch canvas weight bag. In each pouch was some clay like substance. What they did was keep it in something like a rectangular rice cooker or crock-pot to keep the water HOT. When they needed a compress they would take it out, wrap it in a towel or two, and then place it on my back. My muscles relaxed quickly and the heat usually made me fall asleep.
A hot compress is just a way to deliver moist heat to relieve a number of aches and pains, usually muscular in nature, without medications.

Just something that is hot and will transfer that heat to the area that needs to be heated. Just the opposite of "cold compress" which is ice in a bag to cool an area.
Good luck. Pops

A hot rag, towel, or something of the sort. Usually for about 10-20 minutes, then off, then on. It is hard to say without knowing what you are talking about but that is what I assume you mean.

It means to applly heat to the area to relieve pain and inflamation. However, you don't want to do it for longer than 20 minutes at a time, or blood will pool there adding to the problem.
Just get a heating pad or hot water bottle and there ya go!!!
Good luck!

take a washrag and get it wet with hot water, as hot as is tolerable, then fold it in half and then half again. Now you have a hot compress to put on the area.

They mean to use a heating pad, a hot water bottle or a rice bag that you can make yourself with material and rice and then heat in the microwave when you need it. Hope you feel better soon!
