Yes, there is a new federal loan for graduate students called the Grad Plus loan. You start by filling out the FAFSA, just like with undergraduate loans. Yes, as a grad student, you may qualify for loans. Grad student do not qualify for teh pell grant, sadly

No, one indication is that when you feel out the FAFSA they ask you what is your status in school.
