JUST DO IT! No pun or advertisement intended, I swear! I am very lazy, too! I prefer to have someone to work out with so they can kick my butt, but I don't have anyone. So the way I do it is: I just do it. Actually, there is a science to that: Start slow and little so you don't get frustrated with the whole thing; pace yourself. If you start by attempting to complete a marathon or a heavy workout, you're gonna find another excuse not to do it anymore. Nobody is born an "instathlete." Nobody!

The more you work out, the more you'll want to do it. The reason for that is (explained in simple language for everyone): your body is producing chemicals that make you feel good when you exercise, so ALL of your body's functions and senses are put into gear and heightened. This feeling is soon addictive, that is why the more you do it, the more you want to do it, and the better you will feel physically and emotionally. It helps with stress, smoking cessation, weight control, appearance (it's great for the face and hair!), anger management, minimizing the effects of aging, etc. You name it, excercise helps it! If for nothing else, you will feel good because you will slowly but surely start looking HOT! and people will notice. MAN that feels good!

l would make a guess that regular exercise (in whatever form) is probably the cure or solution to a large portion of the world's social, emotional, and medical problems.

Look at and "Listen" to your body. Pay close attention to what it needs, what it would like to get rid of, and what you can do to build your abilities up to in order to accomplish those goals and give your body what it needs. LOVE your body, treat it nicely and with respect. It's the only one you got, it's an awesome machine, a powerful tool, and you will need it for a long time to go many places and do many things with it.

Do everything in moderation, no extremes. Don't use steroids. And don't forget to drink a lot of water! *_*

I hated going to the gym--and was often too lazy to go out running, etc. Also, I found whenever I got on a treadmill or bike I got bored. So, I bought a stationary bike off of Craigslist for my apartment for a reasonable price. I plunked it right in front of the tv. There's only one hour of tv I really watch religiously from 8-9, so I get on the bike during that time and am totally engaged in what I'm watching. The 45 minutes or so goes by pretty quickly and my mind's engaged at the same time. Also, once you do this, and your jeans start fitting differently and you realize there is less anxiety in your life due to less worrying about your appearance/health, it definitely motivates you.

oh boy, that's a hard one - cos' I know exactly what you mean; have the same problem. But seeing as how it's a new year, and all that - I'm trying to do the same thing. I've got two old friends who are also working to "get healthier" and lose some weight - so that is a motivation for me. We're not really in a contest, but we all know we need to make changes so our health won't be affected as we age. So, for now (the first week of the year) I'm pretty motivated. I'm looking at it as a long term goal - to realize that I'm important enough to take care of myself - to make the time for me everyday!

Try putting a full length mirror in the area where you exercise - somewhere where you see it before you begin and when you finish ...... each time you exercise, you should be able to see subtle changes until you advance.

Unlike many folks, start out small ...... exercise in multiples of timeframes.
Ex: 15 mins in AM 15 mins before evening meal 15 mins before retiring for evening

Advance your timeframes as needed thru progression.

Best wishes for the new you!

Make it a condition to do something. For example, if you want to exercise in the morning, tell yourself that you won't have breakfast until you do 30 minutes on the treadmill. If you want to exercise in the evening, tell yourself that for each half hour you workout, you get half an hour of TV ... you get the idea.

To get yourself excited about exercise, keep a log of everything you do, and maybe even everything you eat, to keep healthy. It will fun changing your log over time to make your exercises harder (after you've gotten better at whatever you're doing), and then seeing all of the affects everything has on you. It works for my family... Good luck!

I go to the bathroom, do some stretches and start my routine and exercise for a half hour. What has laziness ever done to improve who you are. Come on, you are worth it and so much more than you are giving yourself credit for. It will make you feel better, give you more energy and help you live longer. Start eating the right foods and that will help. You go..........please!

I find if I have an appointment that I actually turn up rather than making up my own mind when to go or not. You could do this with a personal trainer for starters then find a class you like and it might be easier to actually go.
(I so relate to you btw!)
Another option is joining a club for a group sport like rugby or baseball or anything really - then the team relies on you to turn up so you feel compelled to go
Have sporty fun!

You need to find a style of workout that you enjoy. Experiment, try different things - weights, cardio, classes like yoga or pilates, walking, playing a sport, jogging, whatever works for you and makes you feel good. That will be your motivation.

A few things work for me. I read fitness magazines. I keep them around my home for encouragement. I have a group of friends with the same fitness goal. I have been at it for ~4 months. I keep a pic of my begining picture on my frig.
Even when I am not feeling like going, I remember where I came from.
Tryin doing something you like. I love to dance. So I take dance classes to keep me moving. Do you have a sport you can do? Do you like to dance? It will start you moving.
Good luck.
