Immerse yourself as best you can wherever you are. Get a good quality program in the language of your choice. Then go to places in your area where people speak the language, and let people know you are learning. you will be surprised at how much help you can get from locals. Learning Spanish in America has the advantage of most areas having Spanish programing, and Spanish restaurant employees are common and usually helpful. Chinese restaurants are good also, and usually (in my experience ) Cantonese and Mandarin are spoken. If you can find a Brazilian restaurant, you can find help there with your portugese. I am not suggesting you have to go to the restaurant daily, but it is a good place to contact people who speak the language you are looking for. For instance, I was learning Portugues and told some waiters at a Brazilian Barbeque so. I was invited to a local weekly soccer game played almost soley by portugeuse speaking people. It turned out very well for long term learning, and I made some friends as well.
Use your program as a baseline to branch out of and practice every day. Run a monologue through your head practicing the days lesson, and previous lessons. if you learned how to say you are going somewhere, say that in your new language every time you go somewhere. You see an object you know the new language word for, use it! Pretty soon you will be talking to yourself in the new language, but more importantly, thinking in it.

I have learned 8 languages {Vietnamese, Japanese, Arabic, Turkish, Cantonese, Italian, French(was thought to be Italian when I was in Tunisia because I speak French with an Italian accent),Russian},in my over 20 years in the Navy and in my present line of work. (My wife and I taught English to some Japanese friends, and my wife's 'students' spoke with a southern Virgnian accent.) I did that by speaking/working with someone who speaks the language. That is why there are schools in Taiwan that hire Americans to teach business people and students English. They want their people to learn all the ins and outs of English. I am now working with the India navy and picking up Hindi. The sailors I work with are pleasantly surprised when I speak to them in Hindi, even though everything is done in English - reports and all. I did notice that while working with the Turkish and Taiwan navies, when I finally spoke their language, they seemed to be less talkative among themselves when I was around. (HMM how much does this guy know?)

The persons who say that Koreans do no longer talk english/are very poor at it a great number of the time have now no longer been to Korea in any understand. English would desire to be very very commonplace in Korea because it is the conventional language, and to that end mportant for industry (haha). human beings spend a great number of money and time on English classes, and the federal government hires tens of hundreds and hundreds of hundreds and hundreds of close by English audio equipment to coach at public colleges. The foriegners i've got talked to (I stay close Itaewon, aka "foreigner the city") reported that they have been very suprised on the point of English that Koreans talk. yet I somewhat propose you to earnings a minimum of a few difficulty-unfastened Korean, even nonetheless plenty Koreans (a minimum of those in Seoul) will talk English and could no longer likely assume you to talk any. We hardly do, thinking many foreigners indexed indexed under are merely top right here for industry and/or do no longer care approximately Korean custom or language (T.T). So persons will easily be shocked do you ought to talk Korean. it may no longer take that a great number of an attempt to earnings the basics (Korean would desire to be very merely like English, because of the fact it has an alphabet and letters consisting of vowels and constonents that pass mutually to form words, comparable to english), and it is going to likely be a great boost and you're able to desire to enjoy your bypass to and fro better. yet once you are the lazy form, it extremely is merely high quality. Even probable the main distant places lecturers that prepare English top right here do no longer talk any Korean. merely enjoy a whilst.
