There are of course many positives to immigration but in line with your debate focus some of the negatives are:
- Strain on the economy - many immigrants come to a conutry with thier family and therefore need access to education, health services, housing, etc... Further, the immigrant may not have a job when he/she arrives placing further strain through welfare claims.
- Burden on the government to provide services targeted at immigrants - such as ESL classes, job seeker services, settlement services.
- It can be that immigrants are wiling to do the same job for less pay and therefore "taking jobs away" from established citizens this causes further problems such as racial tension and could lead to racial crime. Putting more pressure on the police services and the justice system.
- Not all immigrants are legal and those who are often work under the table for cash - again hurting the economy as the income is not taxed and taxes are revenue for the government which goes to pay for education, policing etc..... When illegal immigrants are found there is a cost of processing and deporting such individuals. Also, illegal immigrants may not meet the health requirements to enter a country and may therefore carry a virus/disease that could spread in the population i.e. tuberculosis.

Well, let me see:
-They are breaking the laws
-They are using the nation's supplement programs (welfare, disability, etc) without paying into them
-They don't pay any taxes on the money they earn
-They use an education system they don't pay into OR contribute to
-They take the jobs that some US workers could have because they are cheap labor
-They cause property value to go down
-Poverty breads crime - and the illegal immigrants don't make enough to be out of poverty
-They don't have medical insurance - who do you think pays for their bills? Yep - we do when we go to the doctor and in higher insurance premiums (the hospitals have to pass the cost onto someone)
