It really depends on what you are looking for but if it is clothing and cost is not an issue then all of 5th ave from central park on down to oh about 42nd st or maybe even further has the best clothing stores around. Of course they are all designer name stores and cost an arm and a a leg but that's a totally different matter.
If you are looking for food then you are probably better of in the theater district which is not far from there. It is right in time square at 42nd and B'way. Actually there is this great Pasta place called Simply Pasta which is on I believe 43rd between 6th and B'way. Great food and good prices too. Atmosphere is really nice as well. It is old school Italian.

They've got this convenience store their that's absoulutely amazing. You can find them in many cities and they sell so much stuff, probably have a couple of thousand different items to choose from. When going to New York you really don't have to visit any other place because once you go your going to be absolutely and utterly amazed by their slurpees. They have a variety of the coolest and hippest flavors, the store is called i'm trying to look it up right now on my computer, the store is called ummmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm, oh here it is the store is called 7-11. Need more details but I love Macy's, Victoria Secret, H&M, Forever 21 and of course there are the more expensive like Versace, Armani, Saks, etc. Honestly, you can find anything you want in NYC.

To be honest..... I don't know but I'm guessing it's a store like, walmart or target, not the exact name but similar.
