How do I hook an SNES to a new HDTV?

I just got an SNES system because we wanted to play some old games and didn't want to pay the money for a Wii. Well, we have a new HDTV and I can't figure out how to hook it up and make it work. I hooked it up to the only place I could find and tried to use the input button to find the right place to play it on and it won't work. The power to it is on but it won't work. What should I do?

The only way you could use it is with an A/V cable. If the HDTV doesn't have that you could use an R/F connector which converts the signal into a form of cable transmission like for cable TV. Those are really the only two options since most HDTV's primarily take HDMI component connectors and SNES was discontinued over a decade ago.

The way to go is to get an A/V out for your SNES that has S-Video. The Snes uses the same analog A/V block as the N64 and Gamecube, so you can find one at any gamestop, best buy, radioshack, etc. All HDTVs have S-Video and Composite inputs in addition to their HD inputs.

Well, it depends on which HDTV you have. There is a certain antenna input on the TV that hooks up right with the Super Nintendo. The channel that the TV is on could help too. It's usualy 3 or 4 on the TV. I used to own a Super Nintendo and it worked for me.

Try blowing on the ends of the cords. I know it sounds stupid, but there might be some dust on tthem. Those systems are so old that a little dust will affect the play. They are compatible. I have hooked up my N64 up to my newer tvs. Please answer my questions too!
