Here's a very standard American meal that goes back to the pioneer days of America:
Southern Fried Chicken, Mashed potatoes with gravy, Corn-on-the-cob, Green beans, and Dinner rolls or Biscuits.
Below are recipes for some of the meal, but be like a real American and just buy the DINNER ROLLS at the supermarket, just heat and eat. Also, buy a CHICKEN GRAVY MIX at the market, or already made gravy in a jar or can at the market.

For DESSERT, have an APPLE PIE. Buy one at the market, or

This meal is now considered to be a 'Southern' American meal, but it is a very old and traditional meal.
Have fun!

Burgers, pizza, steaks, hot dogs,Chinese food,(Funny, but true)Some great recipes for a steak marinade would bee a bottle of Italian dressing. Not really a recipe, but easy and good.Americans use the grill alot.Grill your steak ,and serve it with good steak fries and corn on the cob.Oh and apple pie is a must! All you do for an apple pie is either buy or make the pie dough.Cut and peel ay type of firm apple, like red delicious,or granny smith, sugar, apple pie spice,a few Tablespoons of flour and that`s it.I don`t measure,so taste the apple, to check if it needs more of anything. You will need about 5 or so apples. Then I always use a crumb topping, but I don`t have a recipe.Other than that, meatloaf is American, but there`s a million different ways you can make it!Good luck!I hope I was some what of a help!Lol!

Down here in Texas, we like chicken fried steak with gravy.
Tenderize a round steak, bread it with flour, salt and pepper.
Fry that baby until it's done to golden brown.
Slap in on a plate and drown it with white gravy.
Good with eggs for breakfast or for dinner with potatoes.
Americans eat a very wide variety of foods since we have many "ethnic" restaraunts everywhere.
But salt is the A number 1 spice that we sprinkle all over every dang thang.

I don't think there is really an answer to this.
Americans are so diverse that it's hard to say what american food is. I think of all the different cultures that make up america.
No spice I can think of fits this either.

I love and my family loves Yankee pot roast. Not sure why it's called Yankee pot roast but it sure is good...
I get a bottom round roast, poke holes large enough to put in a few cloves of garlic in it, heat up a frying pan with a little olive oil and sear the roast till it's nice and brown. Then I pot it in a crock pot or slow cooker to boil for about 8 hours ( or longer depending on size, it should fall apart when you go to pick it up with a fork) for added flavor I add a beef bullion cube or two onion quarters, Basil , oregano , rosemary, and thyme. Towards the end of cook time I add a few potatoes, and carrots and bake some biscuits.
Its really yummy . Good luck

Go to this site and look for recipes by Paula Deen or Emeril. I like Paula Deen better. Those recipes are for mostly southern food, which is really good.
And also when I think of American food I think hamburgers, hot dogs, and BBQ.

Americans will eat anything that is fried in grease. They have even been known to eat pop-corn cooked in bacon grease. The major problem with American food is that an hour after you eat it you're power hungry.
