My husband works and I am a stay at home mom. Every three months or so I get the urge to get a job but within a week or two the feeling passes. I have worked before, i am a stylist. But there are about a hundred salons in this small town and all are only for stylist that have their own clients and make there own money. I have done that and have no desire for it anylonger. If I could find a job that was monday -friday 8-5 that would be perfect.
I am so confused i don't want to get a job and hate it. But xtra $ is always nice. Help me---what should I do. We have 2 kids both go to school and my mother will watch them so daycare is not an issue.

First of all ... go to the Local Community College and ask if they have any free career exploration surveys that you can take .. and do take them. With the results .. you can then better make some choices ...

The Local Community Colleges have a number of programs available .. have you checked out the various certificates, degrees, or specialist programs that they have? Any that you are interested in?

well do u have some things u can sell around the house in good condition , such as collectables, books, cd's , clothes , coats if so try selling them on ebay & see what happens. When u do list only a few items at a time so u don't have to many fee's . How do u feel about kids , u caould also try babysittin /childcare for an at home job, sometimes you can make alot & sometimes u make the bills but at least you would be contributing & still be at home. It is something to think about, but make sure you have the patience & talk it over with your other half & see what they think. I have been doing childcare for 9 years like i said it's not always peachy but my bills are paid & my kids have their needs met. I just thought of it are you lice3nced for hair & if so put an add in a non profit paper or flyers to get u some business u could work out of your home doing hair. Give some things some thought & talk it over with ur other half

My Mom taught me to type at a very early age and I couldn't go to college but the typing part really paid off for me. I got a great job starting as receptionist til I bid on an administrative position and got it. Nowadays it is almost a must that a person go to college cause if not you can't get a decent job. I supported my kids and also had health benefits for all of us. You make of yourself what you can. My daughter is also a stylist so I know what you mean about clientele. She now works out of her home and makes tax free money. Good Luck in you endeavors.

It is hard being a stay at home mom. But finding an 9-5 job is harder. so is paying for high priced daycare. If you are a stylist why not bring you work home. offer your services to friends for a price. Yet a little cheaper then the high priced stuff. More people would perfer a friend. Then have them spread the word to their friends. Clientel will build. Soon you will have extra $. Without having to leave home.

If daycare is not an issue I would totally get a job extra money ALWAYS helps it could NEVER hurt! I would be sure to put on the application you can only work from 8 to 5 or whatever hours you could work.

If you could find someplace like Fantastic Sams or Mastercuts or something like that, it would be ideal. Most places like that are in the malls. Most of the time though, you have to start out on the late shift and close until you can move up to days.

Maybe you could find something part time at first and then go from there. I work part time and I really like it. It gets me out of the house so I can have adult converstation and it gives me a break from all the laundry, house cleaning, and general whining that goes on. I feel refreshed after working my 2 days a week.

Maybe starting like this would help you. Best of luck!!

What are you doing while the kids are in school ?
Personally I would be totally afraid the of the financial consequences of sitting on my butt with no income and something happened to the husband or his job .
This isn't little house on the prairie - unless your husband is making $200,000 and 1/2 of that is being banked in savings in the event of injury or layoff , I would NOT be burning daylight like that . . .
but maybe you are up to the challenge of surviving on little $$ if he was ever injured.

If you get a job that you end up hating, it's not the end of the world. All you have to do is quit, and you're no worse off than if you had never taken the job in the first place.

in my opinion, you should absolutely get at least a part-time job, and if possible, take some classes with the extra money.im not down-playing the importance of being a mother, however, i have known many women who did the same thing, and later on, after the kids were more independant, were regretful of not having developed more marketable skills.
