I need to get a new sofa and I'm looking for a place that sells the best but cheapest new furniture. I've never really purchased a sofa before so I was hoping someone here with experience couch shopping could point me in the right direction. And I'd love to have a sofa bed if possible. Advanced thanks for the input!

You can go to the high dollar homes in your area and maybe catch a garage sale Rich folks change their furniture out very often. You can get some great deals. Also look at this site and listings in your area.

If you want a bed and no living room instead of a futon or pullout sofa, you can get a cheap set of mattress/box springs from a manufacturer that has their own store, instead of looking at the double-padded mattress set that usually runs over $1000.00. You can pick up a mattress/box spring set for $200-$300, and they have the rail set with casters on the bottom if your studio has tile or hardwood, to make it easier to move and clean under. If you want a futon and no bedroom look in the studio, Walmart has one that's okay to sleep on and I think it's around $250 or so, but you have to really put extra padding (a blanket or two) under the futon mattress to not feel the framing for the bed. If you want a sofa and no bedroom (sometimes the couch ends up more comfortable to sleep on than the bed), try Big Lots if it's in your area. They have couches for $300.00, and they sit okay and are sturdy enough to last 10-15 years if needed. If you don't have a Big Lots, there must be another liquidator store that has furniture lines (most are either manufactured exclusively for the liquidator, or the liquidator assumes a deleted stock from an independent manufacturer). Jennifer Convertibles has a good price on their pullout sofas, but may not be in your area. For the best deal, though, you need to check the classifieds in the Sunday paper to look for furniture being sold by individuals. Sometimes they have the furniture for a year or so, and remodel or decide they just don't like what they've bought, and will get rid of it for almost nothing to make room for their next purchase. You can tell by the house of the seller, by the seller, and sometimes even by the neighborhood (depending on your situation) the quality of and care given to a used piece of furniture. Best of Luck!

I have to admit that online is not the option to do regardless of everything everyone will write.

I bought some custom furniture online which looked great but wasn't the most comfortable.

As for best & cheapest, tough call, perhaps a value city furniture, if you have that in your neck of the woods. I never liked IKEA at all for couches, I thought they were all stiff or unpractical.

I know you said "new" but there are tons of decent used options including Craiglist or used Cort furniture. Especially in terms of sofa beds, you may be able to pick up a piece from Cort which is decent & quite cheap.

If you listen to anyone about anything, make sure you sit in it at least once before purchase.

Are there any consignment furniture stores in your area? Sometimes nice, almost new furniture can be found at those kinds of places, and the price is right. Personally, I'd rather have a quality used piece than a poorly-constructed new one. So I would check used furniture stores, the classified ads, estate sales, etc.

Also, some of the larger Big Lots stores that sell furniture have some nice looking pieces at reasonable prices.

Some furniture stores have a "bargain" room, where odds and ends, floor samples, etc. are sold at a discount.

Just start looking, and ask around.

I would say Jennifer Convertible. It's pretty inexpensive. I wouldn't consider it Best. But since it will be your first sofa it's a good place to start. I had a sofa and love seat from them, lasted about 8 years and that's with children who must have eaten some Mexican jumping beans at one point. You can also try IKEA for inexpensive as well. Good Luck

It would really depend on where you live. Some places are regional. I live in the midwest, and some around here are Value City Furniture, Crossroads, Weekends Only, and Ultimate Furniture Outlet. Try looking in your local yellow pages for furniture stores. Outlet stores are usually pretty inexpensive because they have the discontinued furniture and stuff like that.

IKEA if you have in your area, otherwise, would be too expensive to buy with shipping. Because IKEA has more sofa beds than average places, lighter, modern-looking (if that 's what your decor is).

Do agree sofa beds usually are not good sofa or good beds, but good enough for overnight guest.

Great place to look is www.overstock.com or
www.smartbargains.com. Great quality, low prices. Both have low cost on shipping too. I think overstock is like $2.95 to ship on large or small items.

try estate sales... they are listed in the local paper..

I gotta tell ya, i got most of my home stuff from thrift shops, and, exhange shops...(not my bed).

also, try to remember sofa beds are uncomfortable, and very heavy if you will move again...
