It's best to get the cat nail scissors, as nail clippers clip flat surfaces and can cause the nails to split a little and be rough. They're cheap and you can get them at most places that sell cat products. Depending on your cat you can trim them with someone holding the cat for you, have them hold the cat vertical, supporting their bottom and holding under their front paws so their paws face the person clipping the nails. This is easiest. But if there is only one person or the cat is squirmy, you can gently wrap the cat in a towel and leave their head out and the paw you wish to trim. My three boys usually get a treat when it's done. It is also good to keep in mind the cat's mood, as it's best if you start when they're calm and relaxed. Careful not to clip the pink part of their nails, as that will cause bleeding.

My cats don't mind their nails trimmed, as they don't get their nails stuck in the carpet, blankets, etc. They aren't always good, so I clip a couple of paws at a time if that's all I can get. I like it for all the obvious reasons - including they don't scratch me when trying to be affectionate and massaging their paws on me, running across my lap, etc.

I try to trim my cats nails when they r sleeping, less stress on them as well. just CLIP the very TIP. That will do just fine. If u go much farther back u might get into the "quick", which can be very PAINFUL for them, and u might NOT beable to stop the bleeding.
Once u have done it, it will be alot easier for u the next time around. Also, u really DON'T need to clip the back ones, just the front ones. GOOD LUCK :)
p.s. Toenail clippers work perfectly.

I just take ours when he's in a mellow mood and sit him in my lap (he's on his back with tummy up) - then I use a regular small nail clipper and clip a few at a time to his level of tolerance. Then I let him down a little bit and proceed doing the rest. I also put the SoftPaws on the front claws the same way.

Get a cat nail clipper for cats at the pet store and/or ask the people at the pet store to do it for you

And WhoAreYou, she wants totrim their nails, not declaw them! Get your facts straight. And yes I do think declawing is cruel!

I take mine to the vets office....then they put "soft paws" on him which is like acrylic nails for us. They are only around $20 and have all different colors!

use proper cat nail clippers, cut the tip off, dont go too far because there is blood vessel (you will see this) and that would cause bleeding and pain
