Because the breeder checked the "limited" box when you bought the puppy!!!
A limited registration means that you can use the dog to compete in performance events, but your dog cannot produce offspring that can be registered. Good breeders sell all pet quality puppies this way so people do not breed them and make money and MORE pet quality puppies. It is the breeders option and only the breeder can change it.
If you wanted to breed, you should have purchased a show/breeding quality pup. If you think there is a problem, contact the breeder. Also check your contract from buying the pup....it is usually stated there also.

What they are not saying is that a good breeder will explain this to you BEFORE you purchase the dog, weather is has a defect or they just dont want you using their line for beeding.....not sneak it under the rader and you find out after the fact. Sometimes the limited box is marked for a defect in the dog and other times it is for somethin as simple as the breeder does not feel it meets the breed standard such as being too small and there is no defect (medically) I would call the breeder and ask why the dog has a limited registration and why they did not let you know beforehand. A good breeder will make sure you understand the breed and why it is sold as a pet and also make sure you are going to provide a good home for it. The fact that the other "Breeders" who have left posts to your question never mentioned once about making sure it is a GOOD pet home by educating the potential buyer as to what s/he is getting lets me know they too are BYB. Just for the dollar. This is a very common thing as you can tell they never once questioned the breeder and why you were uninformed.

Very rarely do I allow a pup go with full registration. Very few are show quality so in order to prevent more pet quality pups from being born most of my pups have been registered as limited. If I am lucky two pups in a litter can be full registration.

Well, torbaynewfs, has got it completely right! The breeders do not want the puppy to be bred. A breeder usually reserves the right in their contract to only allow limited registration on any puppy. Sorry.

That's ***LIMITED*** registration,an option chosen by the breeder, for PET-quality pups so they **DON'T** reproduce!
ONLY the breeder can change it to full-reg & WON'T because it's **NOT** show/breeding quality & MUST be ALTERED! =spay/neutered!

So you underetand, the reason we do that is because we do not want "pet quality" pups bred and then their pups being marketed as "xxx" bloodline puppys.
