If you say that he is shy just around you, maybe it's time that you guys got to know eachother. Most people are shy around others because they don't know eachother very well, or if you feel somewhat uncomfortable with the person you're with. Spend some time with your boyfriend and arrange dates. Once you have a better relationship with him, he will gradually open up.

Think of some things he likes... Find out a little bit about them and just talk about that. Find a subject that he will feel comfortable talking about. Don't intimidate him that will make him feel even more scared to say the wrong thing in front of you. Maybe even goof up a little bit so maybe he wont feel so bad if he says the wrong thing or gets choked on a sentence. Take time, let him ask you questions and really know you so he feels more comfortable talking to you and then see how things go. Good luck.

Guys just don't know how to communicate as well as women. It's not that they choose to, its in their DNA.
Have you ever been at loss for words when you needed to do the talking? Men are like that most of the time. They can't help it.
Just start out with simple yes or no questions and work from there.

Don't pressure him, above all. Be patient, and share things with him. Men are this way. I am dating someone whose phone calls are very short, and after about a month, I actually got upset about it and I told him communication is important. He just said "I'm not a talker". Yet, he does nice things for me. He's just quiet, but he will talk when he wants to. That's just the way he is.

Well from the sound of it y'all haven't been dating long. And maybe it's not you he is having trouble with maybe it's A trust problem with anyone. I mean many guys blame all females when one of them breaks there trust. So don't take it personal just keep your head up ,don't push, and explain to him how your feeling maybe that will help him open up after seeing how much you chose to open up.

Open up more to him, and if he doesn't open up in return, ask him about his family, opinions on things, friends, interests, ect.
