Ok
So I don't drink...I've never been the type to party hard or anything so sometimes I'm kinda naive about these things. This guy I met told me he has about 5 drinks every weekend (I think at least 2 must be beer). During new year's eve he had 15 drinks!! including 5 beers, 3 shots, and the other stuff was some kind of vodka I think.
Is this normal? even if it's once a year, isn't 15 drinks too much??

Unless he needs a drink everyday to help keep him going I wouldn't think that he is an alcaholic. He just sounds like a guy that likes to go out and have fun on the weekends. If he is drinking 15 drinks every weekend then you could start worring but since it was new years he probably just got a little carried away. If you are concerned you could talk to him about it but I don't think that he is an alcaholic

THis is coming from a guy
WEll He might be or might no be.
THat fact that only on one day he had 15 drinks at one time is something that many of us have done, including myself once, ALthought the 15 drinks were like all beers or mikes lemonades, which are not as potent, however i was really drunk in the end.
If he was having 15 every weekend then yes he would be an alcoholic,
Does his mood greatly change after he has the 5 drinks?
If your not the type of person that drinks maybe you ought to not be with him. I think that you can only be with him of you are into that kind of stuff

15 drinks means different things to different people. If the guy drinks 5 on a normal weekend, 15 once a year on a big-time party day like New Year's Eve, is probably not gonna kill him--so long as he has no plans of driving.
People are different, but it's been my experience as a bartender, that size, gender, and whether or not food and water are being consumed before and during drinking, all have a bit to do with it.

It's hard to say. You can't judge someones drinking habits on a big celebration night like New Years Eve. Some red flags would be:
Does he drive, or refuse to hand over the keys
Does he get belligerent
Does he know when the part is over or does he want to keep going all night
Does he drink when he is alone
Has he been convicted of any alcohol related crimes
Keep in mind that a man can drink about three drinks to one of a woman's, they can just tolerate a lot more.

I think to just say that he is an alcoholic or not is a little difficult without knowing other information. Does it seem like he must have these drinks every weekend? is there a weekend that can go by and he does not drink?
Social or otherwise, alcoholism does not suddenly appear it happens gradually so if it happens that he needs to have a drink every weekend then he seems to be headed own that track

Some people do party a lot in their young adulthood and are not alcoholics and won't ever become one. Alcoholism is a disease and there are a few factors that usually indicate whether or not someone is. True, drinking a lot and often is usually what people think of when they say the word but it doesn't necessarily mean he is. You should do some reading on it and inquire as to why he drinks, then you can make a better evaluation.

I wouldn't call 5 drinks every weekend an alcoholic unless there are other issues involved...
Fifteen drinks is quite a bit, but not uncommon when someone is really partying/celebrating...however the guy probably wasn't too far from alcohol poisoning unless he was drinking some fairly wussy drinks...
I wouldn't worry too much about it unless the idea of him drinking at all is something you don't want to deal with...he probably won't stop so you'll need to accept it (assuming this is someone you date or want to date) or move on...

it is a little drastic to call him an alcoholic...yes, 15 drinks is much and i am sure he paid for his decision in the morning. i didn't have nearly 15 drinks and i was paying for it the entire next day...an alcoholic can't function without drinking. he sounds like a social drinker that went a little crazy on new year's eve...don't read too much into it until he starts waking up in the morning shaking until he gets his first beer.

You have to worry about alcohol poisoning! 15 drinks is way too much!! A person who does not drink all the time can't drink 15 drinks in one nite! This guy is lying to you about his drinking!! I think you need to run away from this guy and don't turn around!!! Plus, you can't change him...he has to do it for himself!!! Run!!!

Sounds to me like he has a high tolerance. 15 is much, but if he didn't get sick or hung over, he probably could've had more. You mention he doesn't drink everyday, does he drink alone? Does he use it to escape.
Sounds to me like he's just a social drinker with a high tolerance. So no, I don't think he's an alcoholic.
