I would like to create these trays as centerpieces for my wedding. It would be way too expensive to purchase them, I will need to make 16. Any ideas will be helpful!

Well, you could find 3 different sized clear glass plates (think dinner plate, salad plate, saucer) from a discount or import store. Dinner plate goes on the bottom, a short glass goes upside down, salad plate on top of that, another upside down glass, then saucer..creating a 3 tired dessert stand shape. This could work well as long as A) all the glasses and plates match, and are of the correct proportion to one another and B) you will need to find some of that clear sticky putty that people use to anchor glassware (I think it's called earthquake putty) or a clear epoxy to keep all the pieces together. The problems are: You wont have a handle that 3 tiered dessert services traditionally have to carry them to the table, so they will have to be very carefully placed on the table. Also, it may even be more expensive to make them when you factor all the materials you will need. Just a suggestion, if you look in the yellow pages for catering supplies, you can rent items like this for very little money.

you didn't say when the wedding was as far as design of the metal. You've seen the three tier plant stands with the snowman plates for the holidays right? They are usually either gold or black wrought iron...they could be sprayed any color and replace the plates with your color or clear. You might be able to pick up the stands on clearance right now. I would be going to a welder or craftsman and have them priced. catalogs like terrys village have these type items.

use a large glass tray as the base layer, then use two different-sized cake stands on top of it to create the other tiers. these can be bought fairly inexpensively at catering or restaurant supply stores (or you might be able to rent them). good luck!

Go to a tile store - go to the discount section & buy pieces of slate - or other tile that will match your decor (large, medium & small) fill shot glasses w/ colorful stones & beads, and use to stack tiles (use at least 4 under each tile) - makes a beautiful presentation

Continue this on the way up. You can also use decoration pillars, which you can get at walmart, or where ever.and kind of cake decorating store, or craft store. good luck.
