It's an incredibly dark spot in the history of a nation that prides itself on freedom of religion. I find it pretty amazing how many people don't know about things like this.

It just goes to show how true the gospel is. Think about it: The gospel is just being restored to the earth, Satan knows this could bring about salvation for mankind...and he doesn't want that. It is so apparent that Satan was in the hearts of those people who were murdering, beating, and mobbing the early members of the church. It just solidifies my testimony that the gospel is true. WHY would those people have been fighting SO hard against the church? Because Satan had hardened their hearts, caused them to be confused, misled, and resentful towards a man who claimed he saw God and Jesus Christ, and to resent all the members of the church. It is very sad.
I am grateful for what Joseph Smith accomplished, that he and all the members of the church had the courage and faith to endure.

I have ready different versions of this before. There is always stress before a major decision, and I think a lot of this stress was a precursor to the Civil War, which had not yet happened.

It was a tragady in our nations history ( though the 18th century was filled with them) fortunatly the Mormons had good rightuous revenge when they slaugtered 140 some people by treachery ( haveing failed at ambush they did it with a false flag of true and guarantee of safe passage) at the Mountain Medows Massacre. I guess they beleve in an eye for an eye, not that any of the victims of the latter massacre were in any way involved in the first.
