The two kittens are about 3 months old, adopted at the same time from the same place. They get along very well - they play together, eat together and sleep together. The black one is very wild and full of energy, whereas the white one is very shy and skittish. The white one follows the black one around everywhere and even cries when he can't find him. However, I think sometimes the black one plays a little too rough. The black one will jump on the white one and bite him. The white one will cry out in pain and try to get away. Last night he left a slightly bloody scratch on his head and leg. Right after the white one was following him around again. Is this normal or do they need to be separated?

That's natural all cats are like that. My male is 6mo. now and I'm going to get him fixed before he starts spraying and humping everything in the house. He's just begun to get rough with me and we just took in another male that's a year old. Those two have to be separated until they both get neutered. We got a two for one deal at the vets for a favor. Don't get them declawed. Just put a couple 2 x 4s together and wrap carpet around them. Use a squirt bottle and spray them when ever they claw elsewhere. Declawing turns them into biters.

The white one will learn what to do in these situations as time goes on. If they're both males they will have dominance issues that will be amplified by the fact that they're not fixed yet.
It's kind of a hard thing to say in that kind of a dominance situation, how will it look to the black one if you're always jumping in to save the white one from the fight? Obviously the white one does enjoy the company of the black one, so if he was overly mean I would think the white one would be afraid of him and looking for hiding places. Just monitor them and look for signs of anymore injuries, but if he's following him around he'd probably be sad if he was in a seperate room while you were at work all day.

Also declawing your cat is one of the most retarded things you can do and you don't deserve to own a cat if you advocate it.

Sounds like it is a dominance issue and the black one is asserting his power over the white one. That is normal among cats. Separate them if you feel the black guy is being too mean. And definitely keep their nails well trimmed!

There are some flower essences you can use on cats if this problem persists over another month or so. I think everything is OK for now. You might go to www.spiritessence.com and read about the use of the flower essences with animals if you need to consider that for the future.

They're just practicing, our Kakashi and Yum Yum do the exact same thing and have the same personalities as your black and white cat. Kakashi use to get beat up a lot (which was kinda fair being that usually he was the one who started it) but now they're just about even.and the only thing that gets injured is their pride. Just separate them when it gets too rough, but eventually the white cat will figure out ways to hold its own and it won't be so lopsided and at times it'll even be comical

cats always think that they r the one and the only its very natural for them but just to be on the safe side keep them away from each other atleast while the bleeding on your white cat heals =)
