I live in an apartment building and I am having problems with my upstairs neighbor. She is an older lady probably in her 50s of 60s and she is constantly bothering me about my next door neighbor (who lives below her also). She comes knocking my door at least a couple times a week, usually more, and sometimes at really wierd hours (once she knocked at 1:00 at night). I answer the door (she keeps knocking until I answer) and she starts rambling on and on about how loud the neighbor is and how she is going to call the police. The thing is, they aren't loud! I have never even heard them! Additionally, I don't udnerstand why she is telling ME about it! I'm just standing there thinking, "why are you here and what exactly do you want from me?" It is annoying to say the least. I try very hard not to be rude to her since she is my elder and all.. but this has got to stop. I think she may have dementia but I'm not sure what to do! What would you do?

She may well be mentally ill. My grandmother did something similar, eventually requiring medication because she was hallucinating.

You need to talk to the landlord/managers and let them deal with it. Beyond that, you can not answer the door (presumably she has to give up at some point).

If you want you can try telling her that you have never had any problems with those neighbors, you find them to be very quiet and friendly, and you're not comfortable listending to her bad mouth your friends unfairly--and then shut the door.

It sounds like she wants attention. She must be lonely. I recommend that you visit her at times that are convenient for you; that might make her feel better about not visiting you in the middle of the night. And if you do see her family around, you could mention this behavior to them and express your concern for her mental health. Perhaps the landlord would have a way for you to contact her family.

You should TELL HER the next time she knocks on your door to complain to the quote on quote "loud" neighbors instead of you. tell her you hear nothing and that by complaining to you she is doig absolutely nothing to aid her so called "problem". Also tell her if she bothers you one more time on the matter that you'll go to the super or manager or whoever runs your premises.

Simply answer the door. if it is a reasonable time tell her you need to go after 20 seconds. If it is an inaprpriate time.....tell her not to knock on your door past 8 PM unless it is am emergency. If she starts gooing on, and it is not, say...this is not an emergency....and shut the door.

If this persists tell the landlord to fix it.

Suggest she take it up with the person that's annoying her. If she has family that visits try and pull them aside and ask them to deal with it. You might also mention that you feel uncomfortable gossiping about people and ask her not to do so with you anymore.

Tell her that this doesn't involve you and if she has a problem, she should talk to the people causing her problems.

She probably doesn't have demintia. Maybe lonely. Tell her what is on your mind and be honest with her. You owe her that.

dress up just like her, wig and all and when she comes knocking again, just mimic her mouth. That should be a blast!

talk to the apartmet management about her...it's what you pay rent for, so the landlords can deal with it.
