They are somewhat related, but not completely.

If someone is very good with animals, they probably will be fairly good with babies.

However, if someone isn't big on pets, there is a good chance they are perfectly fine with babies.

It varies.

However, if the person is abusive to pets...

No not in my opinion. You can take care of a pet- feed it once or twice a day and give it water. Throw a ball for five minutes, clean up the kitty litter or set the dog on a chain to do his business.
Pareting is an instinct where as caring for a pet is not.
Parenting involves pregnancy, labor, delivery, un-relenting love and complete devotion, 2 hour intervals between feedings, walking the floors while singing silly songs, chaning 15-20 diapers a day, expences beyond belief, complete commitment, sleepless nights five days out of the week and the ability to sleep upright in a glider rocking chair without dropping the baby.

No. I hate pets and someone bought my children a pet against my wishes. I resented having to be the one to continuously save it after my then 2 year experimented with things the fish could "play" with. on the other hand I love my children I didn't know that I wanted them either but I lovingly care for them without going over board and they are still alive even though my now 4 year old is still experimenting with "playing" LOL.

No contest. It really depends on the person.

Nope. I hate my pets after like 3 weeks (that is why I don't have any!) And then I get rid of them (I do find good homes for them though). I also have 3 children with 1 on the way and I have thought about giving them away but I love them too much for that. I don't think that has anything to do with anything.

I don't believe it is, for example, the story about the pet that chewed the baby's toes off that was in the news recently. I think those parents treated the pet better than the baby.

That would be a great big yes. I only say this because I see how I treat my pets and my kids and I there is a definite similarity. My husband is the same way.

Not really. Some people are really good with puppies, but can't handle the responsibility of raising a baby to later become this happy, productive adult who won't need therapy. It's a huge responsibility.

I think so.
I mean I got a hamster for christmas and I swear I treated her like a real baby!
but she died...BUT she died at the vets...so atleast I rushed her there....
she was really ill and only weighed 1/3rd-1/4th what she should....so I got sold a pretty much dead hamster...
anyway, ya I think so....
but than again with my boyfriends cat I don't pay attention to it...so if its my pet yes, but I don't like cats all that much....
