Phone and e-mail--but for the most part I try not to communicate when them--they wear me out!!!! Except for my hubby, son and daughter in-law--hubby and I have dinner with our son and daugher in-law once a week, we cook and eat, and chitty chat for a few hours. The ones that wear me out are the 2 siblings I have who only call me to cry the blues!

you can communicate with them by making them a meal. You can say all sorts of wonderful things through food.

And writing a poem can be nice too.

But I would also consider the socratic approach. You learn a lot by asking questions.
