My daughter who is going to be 3 in a few weeks still takes the bottle at night. With juice in it. But watered down of course. I've tried taking it away cold turkey, it din't work, cuz I caved in. Stupid me! Anyway, I've tried telling her that she needs to give the bottle up cuz she's a big girl and not a baby anymore! Didn't work, she then says she's still a baby. My daughter is very stubborn and thick headed, I think the reason I haven't taken it away yet is because I live with my parents, and I don't think they'd appreciate hearing her scream all night for the bottle. I know it must be done soon, but I need advise. I don't want to ask the doctor, cuz I think that he think that she's been off the bottle. And I tried the taking her to the store bit to pick out a new sippy cup and give up the bottle, it just didn't work! I blame myself, for lack of will power to just say NO! HELP ME PLEASE!

She is old enough to under stand no more bottles!

Put a stop to it. Its your child and you need to do what is best. Who cares if she cries. that is apart of having a child and your parents will get over it. Let them know she might be a litle more loud and they can put a fan in there room or turn a radio on.

It should only take a few days and things will be done

I would not try letting her cry herself to sleep. That's pretty cold hearted. You can try:

Giving her motivation to lose the bottle. Find something she likes and tell her that when she becomes a big girl she can have whatever it is.

Give the bottles away WITH her. Find a local pregnancy center that will take donations and explain to her that there are small babies who need bottles and have none and that she will be a hero if she can give her bottle to a baby who truly needs it.

Give her the confidence she needs to get rid of the bottle. Make her feel like a big girl and she wil act one. Include her in simple chores. Show her how fun it can be to be a big girl. But at the same time let her know that she doesn't need to completely grow up.

Offer her a new comfort item.

Try having a snack party before bed. Set out crackers and cheese and fresh fruit and her favorite drink in a sippy or big girl cup. Sit down with her and unwind together and have a snack before bed- then she will be full and won't need the bottle anyhow.

Explain to her the consequences of having the bottle- if she has the bottle her teeth can rot out. Show her pictures of babies with baby bottle mouth.

Let her have a sticker chart that she can put a sticker on for every night that she goes to bed without the bottle. This will put the choice in her hands and teach her confidence and good decision making.

If all else fails let her go to bed with it- then take it after she goes to sleep. In the morning tell her about how she slept fine without it in the night.

Oh honey, you truly need to get him off that bottle and quickly. 3 isn't too quickly to be taking him off of it, it somewhat is surely very previous due. He ought to have been weaned off of that around a million. What you should do is take each and all of the bottles out of the domicile, and go away in basic terms sippy cups. He could be disillusioned for each week or so, yet he gets over it. you will only ought to journey out the hurricane. tell him that he's a vast boy and desires to drink out of a vast boy cup. go away it at that. do no longer good handle him, or experience in charge. he will thank you while he's older! retaining a infant on the bottle that long could reason their teeth to come again in crooked, between different issues like their progression being not on time. it's time to take it away!!! Be solid and understand which you're doing the final way. through ways, if it somewhat is a secure practices element, try giving him a sparkling crammed animal or blanket, something he can bond to rather. good success!

Hi, am a mother of a six year old and a 2 year old. Um let me see does she want the bottle because she is hungry or just thirsty. The reason i asked is because when i first weaned my daughter at 13months i had to substitute the bottle. She use to be hungry therefore when she woke up at 3am hungry for a bottle i had to make something for her to eat. Such as spegetti or a sandwich or whatever. My point is just give a sustitue for the bottle thats she likes until she gets adjusted enough to stop the night cravings. Or if its just because shes thirsty let her pick out a favorite skippy with characters on it; it helped for my son age 2 now rest it in the playpen/crib for her. I hope i helped somewhat.

You can buy sippy cups that they have to suck like a bottle at walmart. You have to have willpower to do what is best for your child. My friend had her daughter on a bottle until after second birthday. She had to get fake teeth at the age of five. Her mouth looked horrible. There were little brown buds there instead of teeth.Let her cry, I promise she will live. You are the boss and the parent, not the other way around.

Stop giving her juice at night. Its bad on her teeth. The bottle isn't good on her teeth either. Start giving her water at night to drink. Its better for her teeth. Have you tryed the Nuby cups that have the soft tip on them like a bottle? If you don't like her screaming all night tell them to deal with it. She needs off the bottle.

Try doing something vigorous before she goes to bed so it wears her down. And if you have to try treating her like a baby again. At her age she should want to try and be indepent. Start doing things that she enjoys doing for herself. And say if your going to have a bottle at night like a baby would then you will be a baby the rest of the time too. She should get that point. Depending upon how independant she is.

you need to take the bottle away and throw it in the garbage.
If it is not in the house, you can't cave in and give it to her.
Giving a child a bottle with anything but water in it Will rot their teeth!!!! watering down juice does not mean it is ok. toss it out and deal with the screaming for a couple days. she will get the point that there is no more bottle. don't cave in. decay is a more serious problem then "maybe" needing braces later on.

Well I say just let her have the bottle- eventually she will not need it anymore- My mom let me have the bottle as long as I needed it and now I am 36 and don't use the bottle- But I do agree with the other parents about the rotting teeth- Maybe just tell her that she can have the bottle but it has to have water in it-
I am going down the same road as you- Mine is 17 months and cries for the bottle- but I use milk and water it down- I think soon I will be moving into just water with a splash of milk for coloring-

Well for starters "JUST SAY NO!" Then tell her that the baby fairy came and took away all the bottles to give to the new babies. (Kinda like the tooth fairy deal). Tell her she has to use a cup or nothing. (Which it should be nothing.. but I can't decide if I want to play pot or kettle on that one). lol Let your parents know you will be weaning her and that they may hear her upset for a couple of nights. Perhaps try a night when your parents don't have to work the next day. Good luck

now that u have let her have a bottle that long she will definately need braces when she gets older, but she will have them at least 2 times. it is what happened to me and i have to get braces 1 more time after this. I have had 2 sets of braces.
tomorrow ack like " The Bottle Fairy" Says that she is too old for bottles. Get rid of all her bottles and get het all new sippy cups. tell her sumthin like if she doesn't drink from the sippy cup sumthin might go wrong or she might have to do sumthin she don't want to.

This time DON'T CAVE.
