There is no easy way to end an engagment but the only way is to be direct and prompt and just tell him no. If you still like the person tell him you want to take things slow and if you cannot stand the person just stop seeing him all together.

You'd send a letter that read:
Mr. and Mrs. John Doe announce that the marriage of
their daughter ________ to ____will not take place. We appreciate your support during this difficult time for our family.

That's proper etiquette anyway. If it wasn't a serious engagement- no ring was given, no date set and no announcements were made- say whatever you want.

that would be fine to tell everyone if he cheated on you and you want everyone to know that you are bitter over the break-up. while it is funny, it would be a better idea to take the high road and just say that the two of us have decided to go our separate ways. it makes you look like the better person.

i would just tell people that it didnt work out like you planned, if you dont act like its a big deal it wont be.
