is that a pacifier you are refering to? if yes, then people are correct to say that your son is getting too old for one. It can do some damage to his teeth and his emotional security as he grows up.
With my daughter, we just told her, when she was about 1 1/2, that our dog ate her binky (same thing) and she cried and screamed at the dog for about 10 minutes and never bothered about it again. She asked for it that night, but I reminded her that it was all gone and she said "okay" and went to sleep without it and without a fit.
There are many other methods, look on babycenter.com and search pacifier weening.. it's a very helpful site!

my daughter used her nookie till she was 2 as well i tried so many times to get rid of them but every time she cried for it i would run to the store and get her more because you love them so much you hate to see them crying you just want to make them happy and that is where the problem was finally i had her round all her nookie's up and told her that the Lil babies needed them that they were crying for them and she was a big girl now and she had to give all her nookie's to the babies .and i did it i threw them away and every time she cried for them i would tell her that the baby's have them and that she wasn't a baby anymore after a couple days she was saying that the baby's had her noOKie's and was ok with it it worked well.

slowly take it away from him.. start first has he can only have it when he is at home or in the car.. . then the next week.. Only at home he can have it.. Then only at bed time.. This is what i did with my nephew when he lived with me... Don't do it all at once because it could be hard or traumatizing to the child.. Do it gradually.. keep telling him OK remember next week you can only have it when ___fill in the blank like at home or bed time what ever.. when it all done and gone give him a rewarded for being a big boy and tell him when you give me you nookie and you don't need it anymore we Will go get you something special...

well it like this...to me nookie means aaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa getting some so if he is only 2 then he is well well WELL matured for his age,,,now being a man we cant get some nookie once and then someone tell us we cant ever have any nookie again...we will just go out and find some more from somewhere else...so you should have never let him have some once. what im concerned with is std s have him checked by the doc........NOW,,,,NEXT QUESTION???

I'm asuming you are talking about a binky/pacifer.
My daughter gave hers up 2 months before turning 2. She was using it so much that a hole delveloped on it, so it flattened out and it didn't appeal to her. She asked me for it a couple of times and I gave it to her so she would see that it wasn't good anymore. That was the end of that. So I would suggest making a small cut in the nipple of it(like a slit). That should do the trick. He might beg for it or a new one, but don't give in! Good luck!

wow... do i know how you feel. my son is 20 months and still has a binki. i just tried the other day to not give him one and it was a disaster. my problem is i also have a 4 month old who is on a binki and every time id turn my head he would steal his brother's. i regret giving my youngest one b/c i knew it would just make things harder for me but he was very colicky and it was the only soothing mechanism that worked. one trick that i heard besides getting rid of them was to cut the tip of the nipple so when they try to suck they wont like it. (the person who told me this said when their child would realize something was different she would then tell her daughter that it was broken and to throw it away)
well good luck and i hope i could be of any help.

We just got our daughter off the the pacifier and she's 2 and a half! one of them got a hole in it, so I just got rid of all of them. And she didn't say a word about it!! I guess they were just pacifying my husband and I. Good luck to you.

just throw them all away; Out of sight, out of mind. He may be upset, but he'll get over it. (and so will you) It worked for my child at the age of 1.
