depends on how bad it is
if it's practical or someone you know might want it, give it to them
if it's practical but you don't know someone that might want it, give it to charity
if it has no practical value and you don't know anyone that would want it, either exchange it or toss it out with the rubbish

Re-gifting is a good idea. Considering your storage space, the best. Why wait, if you are sure you do not want it, do it now. Depending upon what the gift is, you can pass it on sooner than later. Just remember to change the paper/gift bag and give it to someone outside of the friendship or family circle of the person who gave it to you.

Maybe a month? Just make sure the giver doesn't notice. For re-gifting, make sure the giver of the gift isn't there at all. Like if your at a party, then they can't be at the party too or they might recognize the gift. If they happen to be there unexpexctedly, you could tell them the truth or just say you thought the gift was so great you got it for someone else too, or something like that.

I hope when you got the gift you were kind and thanked the person who gave it to you. You could have said oh thank you, it's a lovely gift however I have something similar. May I return it to the store and purchase something else?
Perhaps you can re-gift to another person , although the original gifter might wonder where it was when he/she came to visit.
If possible donate it to a charity or a shelter where someone will appreciate it and if the giver asks where it is you can say you met someone who admired their gift so much you felt compelled to give it to them and you hope they won't mind.

Well you are very thoughtful to donate it to someone that may enjoy it. You could donate it when you are able to. Of course I am under the assumption that its not a gift from like a relative or close friend and they gave you something that they may expect to see, for example a vase, picture, jewelry something like that.

Thank the person giving the gift and tell them how much you appreciate their thoughtfulness. If you cannot use it donate or give it to someone who can, the person who gave you the gift doesn't have to be told.

Ooooh a good question.
We have all received gifts we don't want/can't use/have no room for.
If you don't see the giver often (in your home) you could probably dispose of the item within a few months.
If they visit you often I would keep it and have it where they can see it.
Who knows; after a while someone might knock it over and smash it to smithereens or your home could be burglarised; and wouldn't you know, the only thing stolen was.......

If you dont like a gif you recieve, simply tell the person that the gift was not in your intrest because it is a shame to let someone waste money on a gift you dont like.
