I have the exact same question as you and, like you, I haven't gotten a straight answer to it yet. As you can see from the answers you were given, nobody is going to tell us. The Christian religion is based on this concept. I was raised Catholic for 18 years, I went to CCD and church weekly. And I still don't understand. Many people have died and been tortured for their religious beliefs.. Why is Jesus so special? And, I thought we were all children of God. Why is Jesus the "son of god"?
Don't get me wrong, I believe in God with all my heart and soul. But I just don't get the whole Jesus thing.

He saved you from nothing!
Don't waste your time believing in nonsense and fairy stories about mythical places called heaven and hell, with mythical creatures called angels, and devils.
Study the sciences, love your neighbor, and learn the truth.
All religions are the result of man's fear of death and his inability to explain his existence.
It's the most succesful business ever created and continues to be. Note the Vatican with it's billions, and that phony Pat Robertson with his untold millions, mansions, private planes, and continual plea for your money...which, by the way, the idiots continue to send him.
And, he's only one of the many who say they can promise you eternal life, and save you from eternal torture, if you just send them your money.
Religion was created to control the massses and their money, and all cultures have done it successfully throughout the eons. Only the names of the Gods have changed.
Religion has a bloody past and each one has used it as an excuse to rule, and take power from others...mine is the true one, and you're just a heathen who should burn in hell for eternity!
OMG it turns your stomach to know that untold billions of people still ascribe to this.
The Romans, Greeks, Aztecs, Buddhists, Christians, etc. have all controlled their people and their money, with some of the most absurd religious beliefs. If you've taken note, then you know that only the leaders were filthy rich, while everyone else was dirt poor because all the money went to those in power. No different from today.
The "holier than thou" Christians have one of the bloodiest pasts. Today they turn a blind eye to the Nazis who were Christians wanting the Jews dead, and the Crusaders who wore huge Christian crosses on their clothing during their blood baths. Both horribly butchered and tortured millions in the name of religion. Not to mention that they stripped them of everything they owned in the process...even their gold teeth! Praise God!!!
And, it goes on, and on, ad naseum.
The Muslims are just doing what their religion teaches them...murder and torture all the "non believers," and this includes US!!
Let's hear what you pacifists say when they blow up a half a city next time. Lets hear it for religion, again.
I know something created all of this, but unlike others, I make no claim to know what it is. Whatever it is, it's up there shaking it's head and wondering when mankind will start using the other 90% of our brains.

Man is under the Law of Sin and Death because of the Fall. Therefore to be reconciled with God there had to be a Blood Sacrifice. Jesus performed that sacrifice once and for all.
The Blood of Jesus is your ticket, your only ticket to Heaven.
I Cr 13;8a
Rom 8:2 For the law of the Spirit of life in Christ Jesus hath made me free from the law of sin and death.
2Cr 5:18 And all things [are] of God, who hath reconciled us to himself by Jesus Christ, and hath given to us the ministry of reconciliation;

Jesus is our savior b/c without his sacrifice we were all damned to hell.
A few ruin it for all? Well Adam and Eve gave us grave hope when their eyes were opened to good and evil.
God loved humans so much and didn't want us to HAVE to go to hell he gave his only son so that we may live. We have a choice. To believe in Christs death, accept his teachings and him in your heart . . . . or not believe and whatever happens you make up in your own mind . . . . most don't say I am going to hell . . . . so whatever you think happens in the afterlife.
He saved us from eternal damnation and all he asks is we believe and try to be Christlike.
Many Christians on here bash people over the head and I understand why . .. .they are passionate. I truly believe we need to use another approach . . . .
God Bless

From my rather unorthodox point of view here goes: we are born of a soul. Other term for soul is ego. Soul is a culmination of our behavioral characteristics that corresponds to our ignorance of the truth. Our goal in life is diminish the influence of our soul and heighten the presence of our true identity which is the spirit. So if we give ourselves or least a part of it( thru charity and devotion) we increase the voice of our spirit. The term born again means bringing back the spirit to awakening after it has gone weaken with the rising power of the soul. Individually, we have to deal with our soul/ego correctly so we can get close to our true essence: the spirit. The correctness of the thoughts and actions are amply enumerated in the new testatment particularly in the teaching of Christ. All individuals were born with a soul except for one individual who was born directly in touch his spirit: that is Jesus. Did the Bible ever mention the words "soul of Jesus or Jesus' soul"? No. It was always something like "The spirit of Christ or Christ's Spirit". Because only Jesus was born without a soul. He was even called the Living Spirit( just don't remember the verse). Our goal is zero soul and 100% matured spirit. If can do that we will experience oneness in spirit.
Since we are made of the same image, the spirit, we then only talk one spirit which is equal to everybody, including God and that of Christ. Bearing this in mind we can now have a clear picture how Jesus saves us. There will come a point in our life we will achieve zero soul. At that point we will be experiencing 100% God's will. As soul, we work to reduce our soul influence to zero. This is sometimes called karma. And if we have succeeded, our awareness will transform from soul to spirit. As spirit then, it has to deal with the world's karma(individual souls). Jesus was born of spirit, no soul, no karma. But because of his status he automatically inherited the karma of individual souls, become his own karma and thereby has to face the consequence of it. He succeeded thru that crucifixcion. If we finally achieve a state of no karma, we are excuse the same punishment Jesus went through because his spirit and ours are the same. There is only one spirit. It is as if we go through the same process that he did except that he did it for us. This is where he saves us. Long explanation but tried my best to shorten it out.
Everytime I give this explanation I got thumbs down from Christians point of View. It's okay.

He made a way for us to be able to go live with God the Father in Heaven after we die by dying for us. You see God has a zero tolerance for sin and nobody with sin in them can be in his presence or there spirit would probably be consumed. After Adam and Eve ate from that tree God had to sever his close relationship with humans because he hates sin so much. Before Jesus when good people died they could not go to Heaven but went to a world called Paradise.
The only way for God to be united again with his human creations who he loves so much was to have a perfect human being die and shed blood to take away our sins forever. Jesus, his son was the man for the job. He himself is God also, but he came to earth in the body of a man to live a perfect life, do miracles, to die, and be resurrected just so we could be with him forever. A perfect sacrifice was the only way we could again be with our Heavenly Father again after we die.
God hates sin so much that while Jesus was on the cross he actually became sin itself and God the Father hated is own son while he was on the cross. Since Jesus sacrificed himself for us we can all escape the torments of hell and go to Heaven where we will live forever in ecstasy, joy, fun, and bliss. We will get to explore the universe and do all kinds unimaginable things! Just believe in Jesus as savior and call on him and he will save you too!

Jesus came to take the sins of the world on Him and die for them so that we dont have to. He paid my sin debt, as all of us have done something wrong in our lives. It is part of the sin nature we are born with because of Adam and Eves sin. Jesus came to take away that sin. Jesus loves you and wants you to know that you can be His child eternally. Just talk to Him, He will listen, He is wanting that relationship more than you. He is waiting. Thats the reason for the question. He wants you. Its not hard. Just believe in the unbelieveable.

God hates sin. For Him to forgive sin, a blood sacrifice is required. He sent His Son Jesus to earth to be the blood sacrifice for all of humanity. What He saved us from is eternal separation from Him at the time of our earthly death. In other words, he saved us from burning in Hell and the lake of fire when we die. That is, if you accept Jesus as YOUR personal saviour. All you have to do is say yes to Him.

I think he saved us by dying for our sins by our I mean for Judas and the roman leaders who punished him. Jesus was preaching and doing miracles but Judas, one of his so called followers betrayed him and that is how Jesus died, but he still had no grudge against him. In a way, he died for our sins since God sent his as a spirit to preach about God to the people on earth. Hope this helps.

He saved each one of us from the penalty of sin--death. All that we as humans have to do is accept that wonderful sacrifice. God bless you on your journey.
