If Rep.-elect Keith Ellison, the first Muslim elected to Congress, will use a Quran once owned by Thomas Jefferson during his ceremonial swearing-in Thursday then he is definitely making a mockery of the Quran and exposing his own lack of understanding of the Quran and Islam and his rebellion to the commands of Allah.

Some critics have argued that only a Bible should be used for the swearing-in and they are perfectly right since the God of USA in whom "We trust" is a 3nitty and has absolutely nothing to do with Allah.

The Bible is not Revelation and the Quran should no be placed alongside Bible to give Bible equality with the Quran.

A Muslim swears by Allah with the index finger of the right hand upright to signify the Oneness of Allah and not with the Quran.

The Quran was not sent down as a book and has no right in the Court of Disbelievers.

The Musim is not allowed to legislate other than what the Quran allows and this cannot be compared with eating pork to stay alive.

Islam has no leadership today and I belong to no Sect.

Quran forbids division and the American Muslim is half Christian with a false tranlation of the Quran with Jesus the God of the Christians alongside God.

God is not to be translated Allah, ilah is the Arabic for God.

And Yes I am firm and will always, insha Allah, struggle against the impostors and fake clerics.

Islam is not a Church and has no clergy.

You have a point. I didn't consider that Muslims have their own way of swearing an oath.

However, could it be that it's your sect of Islam that has this method, and that Keith Ellison belongs to another sect? Or perhaps Ellison is more liberal than you?

Could it also be that under US law or custom a holy book must be used, and that Ellison is being creative in his solution to use the Koran?

He could also choose not to "swear", but to "affirm" his oath, as Quakers do.

Anyway, the p.o.v. of Muslims and their traditional way(s) of taking vows or oaths was something I hadn't thought of. Thanks for speaking up.

The legislators all swear into office without putting their hands on any books at all. If people choose to use holy books for their private swearing-in ceremonies, it's OK, but not necessary.

You let him do what he feels is right and worry about your own bidness. Nothing is a mockery of religion if it's done with a pure heart and good intentions. I mean, he might understand things differently than you, and we're all responsible for acting properly within our own understanding when it comes to religion. You're not going to have to answer for any misunderstandings somebody else might have.

Or not. I don't know if he's wrong--I don't even know what he's "swearing" on the Quran. Perfect yourself and let him do his thing.

Read Article VI and the First Amendment of the US Constitution. If you have a problem, perhaps you should begin a drive to the have the Constitution amended. How he choses to be sworn in is his business.

As far as I'm concerned, I hold the Qur'an as having the same religious value as the Bible; that is, none.

Why don't the most powerful of the Muslim clerics voice these opinions loud and clear then? Aren't they the leaders of the faith? It seems THEY should be raising hell over this not a lone voice in Q&A, although your argument is logical, so perhaps they shouldn't use the Quran.

he's not sworn in yet, so how do you know what exactly he plans to do? You have no place among the people of the book, if that is as deep as your understanding goes.
