Like any other business, rates offered can vary widely, so I recommend you get 2-4 movers to come in and give you an estimate. You can also get an idea of pricing on the phone. The moving company can usually suggest the size of the storage unit you'll need for the volume of housegoods you're planning to put away.

I've never experienced loss/damage, but you tend to pay a bit more for that ease of mind. Consider purchasing insurance (especially if moving internationally) to cover any losses.

Be sure to book your moving day as soon as you've made a decision. Moving companies can get very busy, especially during peak moving season.

The price goes by room and what the size of room is. It depends on how far you're moving as well. If it is a long haul your items may sit in the moving company storage facility until such time as they deem it deliverable to you. More locally can usually be done in one day. Be prepared for several damaged and even missing articles. I've not heard of one person having a satisfactory move via movers. With all this info you can expect to pay well over a grand.
