No. When I was eight years old, it became apparent that the bible could not be reconciled with science, and since science is obviously right (it works!), the bible had to go. That conclusion is still valid today.

If I had an open mind. Actually this is sort of what happened to me at 12 yrs old. I went to church and everything but had no clue what knowledge and wisdom was there in the bible in my house all the time! I had never heard anyone talk about even a little bit of what was in there. It's like the words in that book cuts deep into your soul or spirit or whatever. It convicts you of the sin that you have but tells you how to ask God to forgive you of that sin and how to be saved and live a good life. I don't know what made me find that old bible and start reading it but it was the best thing that ever happened to me! I have been studying it for 11 years now an d I'm still no expert but I know without a doubt it is the truth and it gets easier and easier to understand.

I read many books before I was 20. I loved the stories in some of them. The Lord of the Rings, The Hobbit, Doc Savage novels, John Carter of Mars, The Xanth series, The Thomas Covenant series, etc. None of them had the affect on me that the Bible has. And I could quote certain parts of the Lord of the Rings verbatum.

I have also picked up Bibles in used book store, and thrift stores. The difference that the Bible has is the fortunate experience of the Holy Spirit, which got noticably involved in my life at 24 years old. So not only are there words to read, history that verifies it in many places, archaeology that is guided by it, and preachers that inspire faith in it, there is the Holy Spirit to show me the way.

Not all preachers make sense, so the 'pumping into the brain' by them is selective according to how I understand it. I have the Bible to consult and figure out for myself if what they are saying is true. You might be surprised to know that most of them have an issue with sin that I do not agree with.

20 is young and impressionable.
I didn't start to really get serious about the Bible until I was about 25 when I was old enough to see how people who tried to live like the Bible told them to were having better lives than most of those who did not.
If the Bible was not really God's words, there is no way something written that long ago could have been right.
Jesus said the Bible is all about telling us how to have better lives, and He has been proved correct for 2000 years and counting.

Studentofword84... not thinking critically when deciding such a lifestyle change? isn't that a little reckless?

If I never heard of religion, was 20 and just bought a bible out of the blue, then read it, I would do the same thing I did when I was a kid. Reject it as crap, and buy another book.

T The New World Translation of the Holy Scriptures (JW), the Book of Mormon, Holy Blood Holy Grail by Baigent Leigh & Lincoln, The Quran, Darwin's Descent of Man, History of Freemasonry by Albert Pike, the Aquarian Conspiracy by Marilyn Ferguson, Confucious, Life & Teaching of the Masters of the Far East by Spalding, etc......

Yes I would, especially if I read the Gospel of John, the whole Bible is so consistent. I have never read a book that thrills me so much.

For you to ask that question mean that you are asking questions and it is starting to wonder why. Read the Gospel of John, with an open mind

I Did! Read it objectively, and allow yourself to not be critical. This book you are reading is the best-selling, most produced, longest lived work ever.
