Absolutely not. Its entirely your choice.
Just be prepared to deal with the naysayers (the negative people whio think thats a woman's ONLY purpose in life is to have babies)
Just like its my choice to have only one child - and I'm getting asked dumb nosy questions like,
so is he your oldest?
or is he your only child?
or when is he getting a sibling?
GRRR makes me so mad.

Were those people who said it was sinful Catholic?
Catholics believe in procreation (having babies)...in fact, strictly they believe that the only purpose of sex is procreation. That means that we shouldn't have it for pleasure. They also do not believe in using birth control, because we should only be having sex to make babies. I'm sure there are other religions that believe that, too.
I do not agree with that. I am a Christian, and I do not believe that nor have I come across any passage in the Bible that says it is wrong not to have children.
But just a note, there is no greater gift than a child. :-)

Nothing sinful about not having kids. Some people can't have them, and some just don't want to. Its better than if you had kids and didn't want them. Don't pay attention to what other people tell you, read the bible for yourself, everyone interprets the bible differently, and quite honestly, I never saw anything about it being sinful to not have kids, and I've actually read it. That "be fruitful and multiply" thing has been done, we've multiplied ourselves into a world full of starving children. "Be fruitful and multiply" was written when the world was basically bare of humans. We did it, we're all done.

Absolutely not.
Or is it that you think it's OK to have children only to neglect them, to abuse them, to kill them one way or another?
It is OK to have children when you know full well that you aren't prepared to have children? Or when you know that you can never provide for those children? When you know that you don't have the time to raise a child? Or the patience to raise one?
Of course it's not "sinful" to not have children. Then again, the idea of sin is a pile of manure. Don't confuse this with not having a moral code.
The only "sin" is having children when you aren't or can't be a parent. Not everyone is cut out for parenthood.

There are many reasons for having children and many reasons for not. Having them because it is sinful not to have them is sheer stupidity. I had someone start in on me on a blog once because it was terrible that I had no children and starts rattling off a list of "no one to pass your name off to", "no grandchildren," etc. and ending with "eternal damnation." My reply was to check the Bible, "To the unmarried and the widows I say that it is well for them to remain unmarried as I am." (1 Corinthians 7:8 - I would assume this would also mean "no children" since sex out of wedlock would be a sin). I am not Christian, but many who argue what you ask are (though far from all).

Of course not, everyone is not meant to have children. That's why some people are allowed to die as children and before they get to have their own children. An abortion is definitely a sin though because a baby has life as soon as the sperm and egg meet.

The next time someone tells you that deciding against having children is sinful, ask them why God allows some people to be born sterile, or contract a disease and be rendered sterile, or get in an accident and be rendered sterile.

Well, if you were 100% against having kids, and you did it anyway, thus becoming a bad parent (or just an unhappy one), then it would be worse than if you didn't have kids in the first place.
There are PLENTY of kids in the world. If you want to adopt one or some, there are piles of them lying around practically untended. There's nothing wrong with not adding to the problem of uncared-for children if you really don't want kids.

I think the decision to not have children is a admirable one. The world already is experiencing problems from over population and needs many more people to support that very initiative.

It is not sinful to be childless. Some people do not want or cannot have children, and those people are as normal and well-adjusted as those who do have kids. I am thankful every day that I have never had children!
And as far as we know, Jesus did not have children.

The world isn't a nice place. I do not think that it is sinful. I think that it is not up to any one other then the married two too decide to have children or not.
