We have dined at very expensive restaurants(charlie trotters etc.) BUT to get a real feeling of the city that has great food-decent prices-neat atmosphere-try Millers Pub down from the Palmer House.
Try the Canadian back ribs -to die for-great comfort food-or a great steak-lots of celebrity pictures and feeling of "old
Chicago"!

Tru is quite an amazing place to eat, just also quite expensive. It all depends on atmosphere though, I love getting hammered and then making a 3 am run to the wiener circle, its a great meal if you ask me
Ill also have to agree with win 43, Millers pub is a good place to go, we always lunch there before we go down to the bears games,

A couple of very high end (dinner for 2 = $400) come to mind: Charlie Trotter's and Arun's. Arun's is Thai. 11 or 12 courses, but no menu, they just ask a couple of questions and start bringing the food. $300 later, you are done and have had an extraordinary meal.
Everest is also great, and slightly less expensive.

Lou Mitchell's breakfast--their eggs are so fluffy that one egg hogs most of the skillet. The bacon is perfect. They even give you donut holes while you are waiting to be served.
