All babies walk at different stages. My niece was 15 months before she started walking, just because she was scared and her parents never spent time with her working on walking. Just give walking more attention and she will catch on when she is ready. I think your friend needs to get a new doctor, if he called her lazy and spoiled, that doesn't sound like a doctor I would trust with my kids.
She needs to talk with her therapist about all the options and what direction she needs to go in from here. If they both think that her daughter has a problem with her legs, then it needs to be looked into.

Some children DO walk later than others-but that does not make them lazy or spoiled in any case. It is natural for a child to WANT to walk, but in their own time. As far as one leg going out to the right-when a baby learns how to walk they all do their own thing and some of it looks pretty crazy until they get the hang of it. My youngest son didn't walk until almost 15 months old-and that was because we got him interested with a little push toy.
All that being said-20 months is time to be concerned. If she is developing normally in every other aspect, as far as speech and logic, then your friend needs to see another doctor for an evaluation for other physical problems. It could be a deformity or malfunction of a bone, joint, or tendon-or it could be something that would seem totally unrelated like chronic ear infections-which cause disorientation and makes it more difficult for a child to balance. The attitude of the physician that saw her before just screams for a second opinion before putting the child through physical therapy.

My oldest son was 18 month before he walked and was 14 months before he crawled. I had him evaluated at the hospital by specialist when he was 1 because his doctor thought something was wrong also.
After the evaluation the specialist came in and said there is nothing wrong he is just a laid back baby and he wanted to talk and communicate more than physical activity. They recorded 25 words he knew and was putting together 2 to 3 word commands at 12 months.
Don't worry right now. If she isn't doing anything after 18 months I would worry.

This child needs a second opinion and her mother should either take her to the hospital or go to another doctor's. It sounds as if the child wants to walk but is having some sort of problem that is better being sorted out now. I'm surprised her health visitor hasn't questioned whether the child's development is normal.

The parents should have done more to help that poor little child out. There are tons of things you can do to play with a child and keep her body moving every day. This child will probally be behind in a lot of things. She will be two soon. And should be jumping, playing, climbing, and more. It breaks my heart. I would keep the child seeing a therapist and the parents need to work with her all the time. More then before.
Have the child lay down on the floor and wiggle her lges. move them up and down kind of like she was on a bike. Bend and straight and side to side. Do this with her arms as well. Grave her hands let her pull up. Tons of things need to be done for this child.
She may also need special shoes to correct her leg tha goes to the side.
wishing the child luck

My 14 month old son isn't walking either. The doctor ensures me that it's okay. He will in due time. She said a lot of babies don't walk until they are 15 months. I too thought something was wrong with one of his feet because it always turns out. But she said he was fine. His muscles has developed more and his foot doesn't turn out as much, but if he isn't walking by Jan 28(turns 15 months), then we will be going to get a second opinion. I really believes it's because he is afraid of falling because as long as someone is holding his hand he will walk. But he tries to go to fast.

Get another doc. asap. That is crazy. I have never heard of spoiling your baby so she cant walk. She should be checked by a good Doctor and then maybe a neurologist to make sure everything is OK.
