We wrk together at our own restaurant, but heis always putting me down about my work, whereas everyone else I work with says that I'm an exceptional worker.

He fusses over the littlest things and its really getting on my nerves..

I dont want to hurt his feelings by by giving him the rollicking he deserves... But it seems that nothing I do i ever good enough..

You can't. Respect is earned, not cajoled. The thing is, you're both adults -- and you'll always be his little brother. It's not really about respect, as much as it's about his inability to be anything other than your older brother. The relationship between older and younger brothers, especially so far apart in age, is unique and odd. If you don't want to live under his shadow, you'll have to go do your own thing, because he's never going to live under yours, and he's never going to treat you as an equal. That's just the way it is, when you've got an older brother.

say it with tack which is the ability to tell someone to go to h... and make him glad he's going.
Now this is what I would do. I would tell him off in a corner somewhere where it wont embarace him. tell him you do not appreciate the things he is saying and cutting you down and tell him it's got to stop. If you don't tell him he will continue to disrespect you. You are allowing your brother the opportunity to make you look bad and he looks like the good guy. Heck with his feelings he is old enough to know better and if you point this out you may find he doesn't realize it and will gain a new respect for you because you stood up for yourself.
people in general do not respect people that allow themselves to be stepped on so you need to change your ways and start thinking about your own feelings for a chnge.

have a mature conversation with him when you're both off work and away from the restaurant. Use a calm tone of voice and tell him what you don't like about what he's doing (citing examples if possible) and also what you'd like him to do differently. Keep the conversation calm and if he starts yelling or something then end it and suggest you talk about it when he can be calm. If you want him to treat you like a grown up you have to act like one. I also believe that people will treat you however you LET them.

Sounds like he is jealous of you. You sound like such a sweet guy worrying about hurting his feelings when he apparently don't give a damn about yours.

Maybe you should give him that rollicking that he has coming, he is obviously the type you need to beat a little respect into. That's a bit harsh huh ?
But he really needs to learn that he can't treat you like that.

Good Luck ! I really hope you get the respect that you should be getting already.

PS are you single ? you sound like the sweet kind of guy I would love to marry

Ummm....he rips you apart and you need to spare his feelings?
What are you, his personal punching bag?!
Tell that jerk to shut his piehole and don't get off his case until he changes his behavior!
