Im not Catholic or very religious, but I heard Holy Water mentioned on the radio this morning in a very, kind of sacred way. Ie..."dont take the Holy Water." Or..."you cant drink the Holy Water." Just wondering what is it and why its significant.

Holy Water is a sacramental.

Sacramentals are sacred signs that help us live holy lives. Although they do not produce sanctifying grace

Sacramentals include blessings of persons, meals, objects (including water), and places.

The priest blesses the congregation during Mass.

Christians bless their meals. "Bless us O Lord and these thy gifts, ..."

Priests bless water, animals, ships, homes, and even automobiles. "God bless this home and all those who enter here."

With love in Christ.

Ooooo, don't drink it!! YUCK!! It's old water that's been sitting around for a while. Now I have this overwhelming urge to go brush my teeth....ick!!!

I used to be Catholic so I can field this one. Once a year the priest blesses a tub full of water. They use this water though out the year for Baptising people. Also, Catholics take the Holy Water home in bottles and they have Holy Water fountains in their homes.....every time they walk by the Holy Water fountain they dip their fingers in and bless themselves in the name of the father and of the son and of the Holy Spirit. They also use it to give group blessings. They fill this thing that has holes in it and a handle on it with the Holy Water and the priest waves this hole filled wand and the water sprinkles all over the place and blesses the people. Of course, none of these shenanigans can be found in the Bible and it's all just heresy.

Christians sprinkle water on people to make those people christians. Whatever. Personally, I consider any water from Israel, where all water is an obvious gift from the Almighty in an area of low precipitation, to be holy water. Thus waters from the Israeli coast, Kineret, Dead Sea, and Jordan river are holy. Also, any water that helps replenish someone and allows that person to continue a life of holiness and fulfillment of God's word and closeness to God is holy water.

Holy Water is water that has been blessed by a holy man/woman.
It's supposed to protect and cleanse a person form sin/evil entities. It's also used for Baptism's b/c sex is a sin; so since you were conceived from a sin, then that means that you have to be purified. I think that that's a bunch of crap, b/c you were made from love and creation is what God wanted; but that's just my opinion on it.

thier is such thing as holy water in earth. It is only stated on the doctrine of roman catholic church because the priest himself is allelgedly bessing the said water to make it jholy as he claimed. Their is no truth about it. The priest was not given by God to bless anything in earth and it is only God who can bless to make it Holy

H20.

Nothing more, nothing less.

The idea that an all-powerful deity would find favor with certain molecules at the expense of others is ridiculous.

Then again, that pretty much puts that belief on par with a slew of other religious convictions.
