I can buy bananas at the market that look wonderful...even a little green up by the stem. Within a day or so....here come the brown spots!!! I keep them on a banana tree on the counter in the kitchen. What am I doing wrong? Please help me keep the bananas from going bad so quickly! Thanks :)

Never freeze or refrigerate bananas. They will go black. They are tropical fruits and hate cold. A banana tree is the best. If they are still going brown, put them in a cooler area, away from the sun.

Choose less ripe bananas. The counter, away from sunlight is the best place.
Make bread with the brown ones (You can freeze them until you are ready to make bread)

once they're pefectly ripe, put them in the fridge - the outside turns brown or black, but the inside stays ripe a lot longer. But you can't take them out and continue to ripen them - they have to be ripe before you put them in.
They look really gross - I get strange looks from co-workers when I eat them, but they taste fine.

well i think you should buy the green bananas first then they will eventually get ripe. So they won't turn brown that fast! Hope that helps!
